Facade Designer - Aluminium

Role Overview

The Facade Designer – Aluminium is responsible for the design, detailing, and coordination of aluminium façade systems for commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects. This role involves translating architectural intent into technically sound, buildable façade solutions while ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and performance requirements.

The Facade Designer will work closely with architects, engineers, project managers, fabrication teams, and site teams to deliver high-quality aluminium façade packages from concept through fabrication and installation.

Key ResponsibilitiesFacade Design & Detailing

• Prepare detailed façade design drawings for aluminium curtain walling, windows, doors, louvers, cladding, and glazing systems.
• Develop shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and installation details using CAD/BIM software.
• Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and performance requirements.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, codes, and project-specific requirements.

Technical Coordination

• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants, and façade contractors to resolve design interfaces.
• Incorporate structural, thermal, acoustic, fire, and weather performance requirements into façade designs.
• Assist with design development, technical submissions, and approvals.
• Respond to RFIs and design queries during design and construction phases.

Fabrication & Installation Support

• Liaise with fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical and efficient for manufacturing.
• Review material selections, profiles, finishes, and hardware specifications.
• Provide technical support during façade fabrication and site installation.
• Assist with resolving site-related design issues and modifications.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure all drawings and documentation meet company quality standards and project requirements.
• Support façade testing requirements such as mock-ups, performance testing, and inspections.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date design records and revisions.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Work closely with project and commercial teams to support programme and cost objectives.
• Contribute to standardisation of façade details and design processes.
• Stay informed on new aluminium systems, façade technologies, and industry trends.

Required Skills & ExperienceEssential

• Proven experience as a Facade Designer with a focus on aluminium façade systems.
• Strong knowledge of aluminium curtain walling, glazing, windows, and cladding systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; BIM experience (Revit) is advantageous.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and technical drawings.
• Understanding of façade performance requirements including wind load, water tightness, thermal performance, and fire compliance.
• Strong coordination and communication skills.

Desirable

• Relevant qualification in Architecture, Engineering, or Facade Design.
• Experience working with proprietary aluminium façade systems.
• Familiarity with international façade standards and testing procedures.
• Experience working on high-rise or complex façade projects.
