Job Summary
A Facade Engineer designs, analyzes, and oversees the installation of exterior building envelope systems, including curtain walls, cladding, glazing, and roofing interfaces. The role ensures that façade systems meet structural, thermal, acoustic, fire, and waterproofing performance standards while aligning with architectural intent and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop façade systems (curtain walls, unitized systems, stick systems, cladding, skylights, etc.).
- Perform structural calculations and analysis for wind loads, dead loads, seismic loads, and thermal movements.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and contractors during design and construction phases.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, and technical specifications.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved designs.
- Evaluate façade performance for:
- Structural integrity
- Thermal performance (U-values)
- Air and water tightness
- Fire resistance
- Acoustic performance
- Manage façade testing (mock-ups, water tests, performance tests).
- Support value engineering and cost optimization.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes and international standards.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Architectural Engineering.
- 5 years of experience in façade engineering or building envelope design (depending on seniority).
- Strong knowledge of façade materials such as aluminum, glass, steel, stone, composite panels, and sealants.
- Proficiency in software such as:
- AutoCAD
- Revit
- SAP2000 / ETABS
- Strand7 or similar structural analysis software
- Thermal analysis tools (e.g., THERM)
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of international façade standards (ASTM, EN, BS).
- Experience with unitized curtain wall systems.
- Understanding of sustainability standards (e.g., LEED).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and coordination abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
