Facilities Maintenance Person

The Facilities Maintenance Person performs a variety of general maintenance services throughout the Eastview at Middlebury campus in independent homes and other public areas. Work includes the following:

Repair/Maintenance
  • Perform basic repair services involving, but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, adaptive equipment, and grounds. Monitor and maintain computer-based operation systems to include fire alarm, motion sensors, and our nurse call system.
  • Receive and execute daily work orders according to established maintenance schedule. Ensure that tasks are completed per instructions in a timely manner. Develop solutions for repairs with unexpected complexity.
  • Works with team to ensure that repairs are conducted in the appropriate order. Communicates and works with peers and other departments to complete assigned task.
  • Follows-up with Operations Manager on the status of assigned work. Ensures that incomplete or complex repairs are reported immediately.

Preventative Maintenance
  • Conduct routine maintenance on equipment and mechanical systems to ensure they remain operational. Record maintenance logs.
  • Participate in capital replacement plan.
  • Conducts seasonal building and grounds maintenance activities and campus-wide snow removal. Help Operations Manager comply with State and Federal inspection requirements.

Renovations/ Special Projects
  • Assist Project Manager with renovations and other projects as directed
  • Lead special projects in specific areas of technical skill when directed. Oversees external vendors providing assistance to Eastview. Ensures that the quality and scope of work is consistent with Eastview needs.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure that all teams are up-to-date on project plans and timelines.
  • Cross trains into other areas of specialty when requested.

Emergency Response
  • Responds to all campus-wide emergencies to the physical plant or those involving safety for staff and residents.
  • Assists Public Safety and emergency crews in the event of an emergency. Assists with traffic control, communications, security, and documentation.
  • Assists the funeral director in the event of an Eastview resident's passing.

Safety
  • Ensures that proper safety protocol and department standards of practice are followed.
  • Demonstrates safe practice by applying knowledge of proper body mechanics while engaging in physical activity. Maintains and applies expertise in infection control practices.
  • Ensures that equipment and hazardous materials protocol are utilized appropriately. Uses PPE precautions base on the job.

Resident-Centered Service
  • Interacts with residents to ensure that services match expectations.
  • Maintains an awareness of overall functional changes in resident's level of independence for the purpose of maintaining overall safety and welfare.
  • Treats residents with dignity and respect.

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalency degree with hands-on experience in general maintenance in an institutional or residential setting. The successful candidate for this position must have demonstrated skill in the following areas: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, adaptive equipment and grounds. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Must be able to obtain a valid Vermont Driver's license which that does not exceed three moving violations or accidents.

Physical capabilities:

  • Work is performed in a variety of locations including independent living units, common areas of community buildings, and throughout the Eastview grounds and will require moving between locations on a continuous basis with variation in temperature and weather conditions, lifting up to 50 pounds, stretching, bending, twisting, and lifting motions.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • 24/7 emergency response required on a rotating on-call basis.
