Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Understanding of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and steam equipment theory, controls, and operations, specifically in a commercial food service environment.
  • Analytical skills to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures in commercial food service equipment.
  • Skilled in the repair of commercial food service equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical and repair manuals and schematics.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency with email and ability to complete electronic work orders and requisitions.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to use trade-specific tools.
  • Project/Process Management skills to coordinate assistance from facilities shops or vendors for repairs with minimal impact on food service operations.
  • Technology skills to access online support documents and forums.
  • Administrative skills to identify and locate needed repair parts and prepare facilities work requests.
  • Oral and written communication skills to convey status reports on equipment to supervisors and end users, and to instruct users in recommended cleaning and operation of equipment.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish rapport with dining facilities directors and staff.
  • Problem-solving skills for creative/adaptive reuse of older equipment and determining appropriate replacement equipment based on repair history and/or changing needs.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and repair tasks independently and/or assist journey-level craft workers.
  • Complete work orders, request materials, and prepare maintenance reports.
  • Clean and prepare food service equipment and facilities to meet inspection and safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications or formal training in commercial kitchen equipment maintenance (such as CFESA certifications or manufacturer training)
  • At least two years of experience in commercial kitchen equipment maintenance and repair, preferably within large institutions such as universities or government facilities.
  • Advanced skills in troubleshooting and repairing a variety of kitchen equipment, including electrical, gas, steam, and refrigeration units.
  • Experience managing and coordinating large-scale maintenance projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety standards, food safety regulations, and building codes for food service operations.
  • Ability to work under general supervision, exercising judgment and choice among possible actions, sometimes without clear precedents.
  • Skill in working as a team member and communicating with a variety of management, technical & service personnel
  • Skill in establishing rapport with a variety of clients & co-workers

Job Description
The Facilities Maintenance Worker II is responsible for providing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair work on university facilities and equipment overseen by Support Services.

Job Duties
Respond to work orders, emergency calls, or pages related to dining services maintenance.

Inspect equipment and facilities: 15%
Perform regular inspections and troubleshoot issues to ensure all equipment and facilities are functional and meet required operating standards. Conduct preventative maintenance to extend the lifespan of equipment.
Repair equipment: 40%
Diagnose and repair equipment, including plumbing, electrical, steam, and mechanical systems, to manufacturer’s specifications to ensure continued operation of food services.
Repair facilities: 15%
Maintain food service facilities including flooring, fixtures, and lighting to ensure safety and compliance with building standards and codes.
Construct fixtures and structures: 10%
Support new or revised food service concepts by fabricating, modifying, and installing necessary fixtures and structures, including counters, walls, etc.
Install new appliances and equipment: 10%
Replace obsolete or unrepairable equipment with new appliances and equipment per manufacturer’s specifications.

Clean equipment and facilities: 5%
Ensure cleanliness and safety of facilities and equipment to facilitate inspection and repair.

Support supervisor(s) and other departments, as assigned: 5%
  • Ensure timely completion of scheduled or special projects related to dining services maintenance
  • Coordinate workloads and projects with other DSS Support Services staff, shops, vendors, contractors, and dining facilities directors and staff to manage workloads and projects efficiently.
  • Procure and maintain necessary parts inventory to dining services equipment to support maintenance activities.
  • Document maintenance activities and provide status reports related to dining services maintenance.
  • Actively participate in departmental programs and projects designed to support the mission and goals of the university, division, and department.
  • Additional hours may be required during peak periods.

Additional Information to Applicants
This position will require you to occasionally drive a state vehicle.
Be available for occasional on-call duty after hours, weekends and holidays.
