Facilities Manager Job Description

Overview of the role:

The role of the School Facilities Manager is to ensure that the school functions safely and effectively on a daily basis and sets a plan for long-term facility improvements and expansion. The role is key to ensuring that school facilities are available and fit for all purposes at all times. The Facilities Manager will work with ICRS custodians to create a clean and orderly environment.

Requirements

· Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and five years’ experience in facility maintenance or construction trades work

· Hold a valid drivers license

· Understanding of construction methods, materials, terms and conditions

· Proficient in basic building trades work and in reading plans and specifications

· Reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, drawings, maps and other related documents

· Develop and maintain facility maintenance manuals

· Good understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering and operation

· Basic understanding of building, mechanical and electrical codes and practice

· Have outstanding communication and organization skills

Responsibilities:

Caretaking

· Ensure that the school premises are presented to a high standard at all times

· Ensure litter and clutter are put in its place to present an organized and clean facility

· Be a principle key holder for the school, attending emergency call outs as necessary

· Undertake physical work both indoors and outdoors, including moving and lifting heavy objects as necessary to assist janitors, teachers and contractors that are on site

· Meet regularly with the School Facilities committee, normally after hours

Maintenance

· Manage the buildings and grounds, undertake minor repairs and maintenance to facility, fixtures and fittings

· Identify potential preventive maintenance and solutions to address these

· Develop and maintain a works request system complete with logs of repairs needed with their priority and status

· Create, maintain a list of contractors to perform work beyond their scope and develop close relationships to have them on call as needed.

· Coordinate and schedule contractors to lesson disruption to ongoing functions of the school and its activities

· Obtain pricing and prepare concise quotes for repairs for approval

· Negotiate pricing and timeframes to ensure the repairs are done at the least cost conforming to high quality

· Be willing and able to work overtime in emergency situations

Compliance

· Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations, making sure health and safety risk assessments and safe working practices and procedures are in place and closely followed

· Create and maintain safety and security tests including an understanding of fire and security alarms and their function and carry out tests as laid out in the inspection schedule.

· Be responsible for facility security systems including locks and keying of such ensuring that all entry points, including gates doors and windows and other security measures are working effectively

· Ensure all tests of facility systems are being performed and logged

Health and Safety

· Ensure all health and safety training is in place

· Follow safe systems of work, and have a working knowledge of relevant risk assessments and OSHA and WISHA requirements

· The Facilities Manager is expected to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and to be mindful of the safety of others, to cooperate with instructions, to minimize and mitigate potential hazards and risks to others and appropriately report hazards, illnesses or injuries in accordance with our Health and Safety Policy

Compensation: Hourly pay of $35-$40 per hour based on experience and expertise. An average of 10 hours per week.

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
