Job Summary: The Facilities Manager is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency of the winery's buildings, grounds, and equipment located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This part-time role ensures a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environment for staff, visitors, and wine production, while upholding the unique character of our mountain winery.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repair:
- Oversee and perform routine maintenance and repairs of all winery facilities, including production buildings, tasting room, offices, and residential structures.
- Manage and execute preventative maintenance schedules for all critical winery equipment (tanks, pumps, presses, filters, bottling line components, chillers, boilers, HVAC systems) to minimize downtime.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural issues.
- Coordinate and oversee external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs or projects (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, vineyard infrastructure, security systems).
Grounds & Infrastructure:
- Maintain winery grounds, including landscaping, roads, pathways, and drainage systems, ensuring cleanliness and accessibility.
- Oversee the upkeep of vineyard infrastructure not directly related to viticulture (e.g., fencing, irrigation mains, utility connections).
- Manage waste disposal and recycling programs.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance of all winery facilities to include but not limited to: Cellar equipment - pumps, hoses, valves & fittings, storage racks, filters, centrifuges, cross flow; Crush equipment - de-stemmers, pumps, presses, conveyors, and hoists.
Safety & Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and enforce facility safety programs and procedures in compliance with OSHA, local fire codes, food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, GMPs), and other relevant regulatory bodies.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure all equipment and facilities meet safety standards.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans and procedures (e.g., fire, earthquake, power outages).
- Ensure all necessary permits and licenses related to facilities operation are current and maintained.
Operational Support:
- Assist with facility setup and breakdown for winery events.
- Manage inventory of maintenance supplies and spare parts.
- Provide support for various winery operations as needed.
Budget & Administration:
- Assist in the development and management of the facilities budget, tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and service contracts.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Vocational training or certification in a relevant trade (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems) preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, property management, or a related field, with a strong preference for experience in a winery, brewery, food production, or agricultural environment.
- Proven experience with preventative maintenance programs and managing external contractors.
Skills:
- Strong hands-on technical skills in general maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repair.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and safety guidelines.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively for a part-time schedule.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with winery staff.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices specific to a production environment.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., email, spreadsheets for tracking).
Preferred Skills
- English and Spanish
- Strong understanding of refrigeration processes and equipment (Glycol and/or Ammonia) RETA certification preferred.
- • Sound electrical understanding and troubleshooting skills - 3-phase power distribution and motors; Control circuits (2-wire, 3-wire, holding circuits); Control components (Push-buttons, photo-electric switches, limit switches, relays, contactors & V.F.D.s); PLC's and Ladder logic diagrams.
- Welding skills - TIG & MIG, and/or sanitary welding.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in a winery environment which may include exposure to loud noises, chemicals, and extreme temperatures (hot and cold).
- Must possess a valid California Driver's License and have a clean driving record.

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
