What You Will Do
The Associate Lab Director for Facilities and Operations (ALDFO) is seeking a Facility Operations Director to lead the Institutional Facilities (IF-DO) directorate. IF-DO manages a diverse portfolio of common-use facilities essential to the Laboratory's mission. These include data centers, tactical training centers, indoor and outdoor firing ranges, fire departments, parking structures, vehicle access portals, offices, and warehouses. Facilities encompass both DOE-owned and Triad-leased properties, requiring a high degree of coordination, compliance, and stewardship.
Key Job Functions-
Operational/Facility Leadership: Direct day-to-day operations of IF-DO facilities in conjunction with safety basis, facility engineering, facility maintenance, safety, security, project management, contractor assurance, operations support, and emergency response to, ensuring safety, security, and compliance with DOE and Laboratory standards.

Facility Oversight: Manage operations for a diverse set of facilities including data centers, tactical training centers, firing ranges, fire departments, parking structures, vehicle access portals, offices, and warehouses.

Compliance & Risk Management: Maintain facility authorization agreements, safety bases, and compliance with DOE Orders, regulatory standards, and Triad lease requirements.

Integrated Safety Management (ISM): Implement ISM principles across all activities, ensuring hazards are identified and mitigated, and safety is integrated into every operation.

Workforce & Program Development: Lead staff across functional areas, oversee training and qualification programs, and promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace.

Resource Stewardship: Manage budgets, schedules, and resources while balancing mission-critical operations with efficiency and fiscal accountability.

Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure mission alignment, resolve issues, and promote effective use of facilities.

Strategic Vision: Develop strategic vision for institutional planning, improvements, and initiatives.
What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:-
Thorough understanding of work hazards/controls, safety practices, operating configurations, and safety programs.

Demonstrated knowledge of facility operations, maintenance, engineering, environmental, safety and health, and quality assurance programs.

Extensive experience in critiques, corrective action development, root cause analysis, and lessons learned.

Comprehensive knowledge of facility policies, DOE orders, and regulatory standards.

Extensive knowledge in workplace safety, OSHA standards and occupational hazards and controls.

Excellent customer service, negotiation, and influence skills with internal and external stakeholders. In-depth knowledge of multiple functional areas and organizational business strategies; demonstrated ability to foster innovation and promote new ideas.

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities, with experience preparing and presenting clear reports.

Ability to manage in low, moderate and high-hazard environments, anticipate risks, and implement mitigation strategies on behalf of the laboratory.

Ability to interface with regulators

Demonstrated experience managing a complex budget for staffing, maintenance, and infrastructure upgrades.

Extensive experience in implementing authorization basis requirements and maintaining the safety envelope.
Education/ExperienceBachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 15 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2 (Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities).Desired Qualifications:-
Familiarity with the organizational structure and objectives of Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Work Environment:Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional DetailsDirective 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
- Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
