Facilities Project Engineer (Manufacturing)

SUMMARY: The Manufacturing Project Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end execution of capital investment projects and major maintenance initiatives within a manufacturing environment. This role leads facility expansions, equipment upgrades, and large-scale maintenance turnarounds, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with zero compromise on safety, quality, or operational performance.

They will serve as the technical and project leadership bridge between Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Finance, and external partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Capital Project Management

  • Lead CAPEX projects from feasibility studies and scope definition through budgeting, execution, installation, and commissioning
  • Develop project charters, schedules, cost estimates, and risk mitigation plans

Equipment Lifecycle Management

  • Assess aging assets and perform ROI analyses to determine repair vs. replacement strategies
  • Lead procurement, installation, and integration of new equipment, automation, and process technology

Facility Expansion & Layout Optimization

  • Coordinate structural expansions, utilities upgrades, and plant layout improvements
  • Work closely with architects, contractors, and internal stakeholders to optimize floor plans and material flow

Major Maintenance & Turnarounds

  • Plan and execute plant shutdowns, overhauls, and large-scale maintenance projects
  • Minimize production disruption through detailed planning, scheduling, and contingency management

Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Source, evaluate, and manage contractors, equipment suppliers, and service providers
  • Ensure all third-party work meets company standards, safety requirements, and local building codes

Continuous Improvement

  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to ensure new equipment and processes improve throughput, reliability, and waste reduction

Risk Management

  • Risk Mitigation: Identify risks associated with projects, such as structural challenges or delays in projects, and develop contingency plans.
  • Emergency Repairs: Respond promptly to facility emergencies and coordinate repair strategies to minimize production interruptions, and the facility in its entirety.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated success managing capital projects exceeding $500,000
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design tools
  • Experience with project management software (MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent)

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Proficiency in the English language, written and spoken is required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Primavera, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams, and OneDrive.

COMPENSATION: After thorough market analysis, LAPP takes many factors into consideration when determining base salary such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, etc. of the candidate. The base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $130,000 plus participation in LAPP's bonus plan.
