FACILITIES TECHNICIAN

About the Role:

The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining and supporting all aspects of facility operations, including building systems, utilities, and equipment. This role oversees the operation of two high-pressure steam boilers, performs routine maintenance and safety inspections, and ensures compliance with all applicable regulations. The Facilities Technician works collaboratively with internal departments, vendors, and contractors to maintain a safe, efficient, and productive work environment that supports the organization’s daily operations.

This is a standard Monday–Friday day shift position; however, overtime and flexible scheduling may be required to meet operational needs, including early start times, late shifts, or occasional weekend assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and oversee two (2) high-pressure boilers, including startup, shutdown, daily checks, vendor coordination, and water treatment.
  • Manage the wastewater treatment system, including weekly calibration, pH monitoring, sample management, area cleanliness, and vendor oversight.
  • Perform repairs or coordinate vendor support for facility utility systems such as fire suppression, electrical, plumbing, solar, and HVAC.
  • Manage and execute the HVAC filter replacement schedule.
  • Conduct and document required safety inspections, including stormwater, roof, life safety systems, fire extinguishers, PPE, hoists, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, fall protection, and ladders.
  • Serve as an active member of the facility’s confined space entry team (training provided if needed).
  • Maintain facility lockout/tagout supplies and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors to support maintenance projects and ensure timely completion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid New Jersey Black Seal High-Pressure Boiler License required.
  • 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience required; degree not required.
  • Experience in high-pressure boiler operation, water treatment, and mechanical system maintenance, preferably in industrial maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, safety regulations, and maintenance best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn facility management software.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and respond to facility emergencies as needed.

The Facilities Technician applies plumbing skills daily to maintain and repair water and drainage systems, ensuring operational reliability. Preventive maintenance expertise is essential for scheduling and performing routine inspections that prevent costly breakdowns. Proficiency with basic and power hand tools enables the technician to efficiently complete a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks. The ability to comprehend and interpret technical instructions and blueprints ensures accurate troubleshooting and adherence to safety standards. Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with measuring devices support precise diagnostics and maintenance, contributing to the overall safety and functionality of the facility.
