The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic center that serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that span Pakistan. AKUH’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited. It caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections: Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and highly engaged in research, undergraduate, and postgraduate teaching and training.

The Section of Histopathology has a state-of-the-art, semi-automated laboratory that can accommodate all samples for diagnosis according to international standards. The section provides services for the diagnosis of neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. Test menus include a vast panel of Immunohistochemical stains to help reach an accurate diagnosis in complex cases and have a large and experienced faculty with diverse subspecialty interests. The residents have daily hands-on practical training during routine daily sign-out with consultants. They are encouraged to do research and get papers published in peer-reviewed journals under the supervision of the sectional faculty.

FACULTY POSITION, DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY and LABORATORY MEDICINE | SECTION OF HISTOPATHOLOGY

Responsibilities:

Candidates will be expected to have independent consultant status and undertake regular services, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and specified administrative activities.

Requirements:

Candidates must have completed their post-graduate training from a reputable institution and possess FCPS, FRCPath, American Board, or equivalent qualification. In addition, they should have demonstrated scholarship through research, publications, and/or contributions to education. Additionally, applicants for:

Professor: Should have at least 9-12 years of experience in an HEC-recognized University and a minimum of 8-10 research publications in journals recognized jointly by HEC and PMDC, with at least 5 of these publications in the last 5 years.

Associate Professor: Should have at least 7-8 years of teaching/research experience in a HEC-recognized University or postgraduate institution with a minimum of 6-8 research publications in journals recognized jointly by HEC and PMDC, with at least 4 of these publications in the last 5 years.

Assistant Professor: An Assistant Professor should have at least 4-5 years of experience as Senior Instructor or equivalent, and should have demonstrated scholarship through research, publications, and/or contribution to education.
