Our firm is growing, and we are looking for a sharp family attorney who will zealously represent clients in all areas of family law. You’ll assist individuals in a variety of situations, such as navigating prenuptial agreements and attending court hearings for divorce, alimony/spousal support, and child support.


The prime candidate will have experience with a range of sensitive legal issues, such as child abuse, child custody, and domestic violence, and be able to maintain composure, negotiate, and argue effectively even in emotional and high-stress situations. Compensation:

$100,000 - $125,000 yearly

Responsibilities:
  • Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients
  • Maintain client files to ensure they are properly organized and up to date
  • Create legal documents such as pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgements and orders for a high volume of cases
  • Manage the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings when needed
  • Communicate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process
  • Represent clients in court proceedings as needed
  • Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation, and forming a strategy for a plan of action
  • Represent clients in hearings, mediations, and trials
  • Direct and supervise the work of support staff
  • Draft pleadings and orders
  • Prepare equitable distribution charts
  • Conduct monthly file review meetings
  • Monitor retainer balances and communicate replenishment needs to the billing specialist
  • Communicate with the client to understand their goal and develop a corresponding strategy to meet those goals
  • Represent clients in appeals when necessary
Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations
  • At least 1-2 years of working in a law firm on family law issues as well as real estate (determining marital property) is necessary
  • Ability to successfully represent both plaintiff and defendant sides of a case
  • Candidate must have a license to practice law in either West Virginia or Ohio and be willing to obtain the other state licensure upon being offered employment
  • Prior family law experience is preferred but not required
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Empathy for clients with a genuine desire to improve their lives
  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • Great negotiation skills
  • Willingness to travel to other areas of the state for hearings and meetings
