Legal Assistant

The Figueroa Law Group, P.A., is looking to hire a full-time Legal Assistant to join our team! The ideal candidate for this position has a strong work ethic, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, highly organized, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic workplace.

The Legal Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

Process incoming client and court documents

Maintain and sends incoming mail log

Process and distributes incoming and outgoing mail for the assigned individuals

Image client documents

Responsible for Attorney’s and Paralegal’s outboxes

Know and understand e-filing procedures

Look over all outgoing Court documents to double-check important data such as names and dates.

File legal document through e-filing portal

Some travel may be required as Legal Clerk may hand-deliver hearing/trial exhibits to courthouse.

Look over incoming Court documents to ensure all deadlines have been calendared.

Assist the receptionist in answering incoming phone calls and routing calls to the appropriate person within the office.

Assist the Intake team as needed by obtaining information and scheduling consultations with the attorney

Keep work area clean and organized to always maintain a professional appearance.

Perform general clerical tasks, such as filing, data entry, and copying.

Retrieves or searches for files.

Retrieves, reviews, and prepares appropriate legal documents for purging.

Send electronic copies of all e-filed legal documents to the appropriate clients.

Knowledge of:

  • General clerical tasks such as filing and record-keeping
  • Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Basic arithmetic
  • English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.

Ability to:

  • Learn, interpret, explain, and apply e-filing policies and procedures
  • Compose correspondence and reports independently or from brief instruction; maintain records and databases.
  • Make accurate arithmetic computations.
  • Perform responsible clerical support work with accuracy, speed, and supervision.
  • Learn and understand the operation of the Firm and of the Court as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities.
  • Organize, maintain, and update Firm database and records systems.
  • File materials alphabetically, chronologically, and numerically.
  • Enter and retrieve data from a computer with sufficient speed and accuracy to perform assigned work
  • Operate modern office equipment, including computer equipment and word-processing, databased, and spreadsheet application programs.
  • Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent, one (1) year of general office clerical experience, valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record.

In addition, the candidate must possess the following skills:

Organizational skills: Candidates must have excellent organizational skills. Candidates will be responsible for the organization of various office-related documentation, including client files.

Communication skills: Candidates must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including on the phone, via email and through letters.

Technology skills: Candidates must have excellent technology skills working with several types of software and technology programs to perform daily duties. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications is required.

Multitasking skills: Candidates must be able multitask without becoming overwhelmed as this is an important skill needed to be successful in this position.

Pay is commensurate to experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
