Family Nurse Practitioner

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner from an accredited institution
  • Current and active California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license with Furnishing Number (NPF).
  • National Nurse Practitioner certification (ANCC or AANP).
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Active and unrestricted DEA license or ability to obtain.
  • At least two (2) years of recent experience in a primary care or community clinic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with community college students with disabilities and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and sexual orientation backgrounds.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills including patient history taking, physical examination, and management of common acute illnesses.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and common office software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Experience working with young adults or within a college health setting.
  • Experience with sexual and reproductive health services, including pelvic exams, STI testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, and family planning counseling.
  • Familiarity with communicable disease protocols, including TB, STI, and public health reporting requirements.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience participating in health promotion, public health education, or campus wellness programs.
  • Experience with grant writing, program development, or clinical program implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality episodic, urgent, and primary health care services to students through in-person and telehealth appointments.
  • Conduct patient evaluations including medical history, physical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of common acute illnesses.
  • Provide sexual and reproductive health services including pelvic exams, STI testing and treatment, HIV/STI prevention, and family planning counseling.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as laboratory studies and imaging when appropriate.
  • Prescribe and dispense medications within Standardized Practice Guidelines.
  • Provide first aid and initiate appropriate interventions in emergency situations.
  • Educate and counsel students on health conditions, treatment plans, and preventive health practices.
  • Collaborate with the medical director, clinic coordinator, nurse practitioners, registered nurse, and interdisciplinary health center staff to provide coordinated care.
  • Refer students to outside providers when care exceeds the scope of the student health clinic.
  • Participate in campus health promotion and education initiatives.
  • Assist in screening, reporting, and follow-up care for communicable diseases including TB, STIs, and emerging infections.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records and complete charting within established timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, the California Medical Information Act (CMIA), and Standardized Practice Guidelines.
  • Participate in clinic meetings, program evaluation activities, and the ongoing development of student health services.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting while working at a computer.
  • Prolonged standing during patient evaluations.
  • Ability to lift 15–20 pounds.

Pay: $72.02 per hour
