POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position supports The Bridge, Ada County’s Youth and Family Resource Center, Ada County Juvenile Services. The Family Services Coordinator is responsible for developing, promoting and maintaining a family focused resource database that includes community-based and on-line parenting resources in addition to social service programs that support health, education, employment, housing, and food security. This position conducts assessments and screenings to identify individual and family needs, connecting to appropriate resources and facilitate referrals to community-based programs. Provides direction and assistance in navigating community resources. This position supports The Bridge, Ada County’s Youth and Family Resource Center, Ada County Juvenile Services.

DISTINGUISING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Performs routine and varied work under general direction and according to pre-defined guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Provides excellent customer service to engage family members in community-based services, and program resources;
  • Researches and maintains a comprehensive database of parent or family member specific resources;
  • Works 1:1 with parents and or family members to assist them in gaining skills needed to improve outcomes for their youth;
  • Develops and facilitates family education groups;
  • Maintains a working knowledge and up-to-date understanding of community resources and the services provided;
  • Collects and documents statistical data related to program assignments;
  • Completes evidence-based assessments of clients and families;
  • Coordinates activities in programmatic focus area;
  • Monitors, reports on, and ensures compliance with operational requirements or established guidelines related to case management;
  • Coordinates and provides case management services including referrals to community based resources;
  • Keeps supervisor informed of workload, and notifies supervisor of potential problems;
  • Ability to develop community and on-line resources that assist family members of at risk youth;
  • Works with community-based providers and resources;
  • Reviews processes and procedures in programmatic focus area.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology or a related human services field preferred;
  • Knowledge and experience working with at risk youth and their families preferred;
  • Knowledge of the juvenile justice system preferred;
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and/or social services preferred;
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of group work;
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of social services;
  • Knowledge of individual and family crisis intervention techniques;
  • Knowledge of program development and needs assessment;
  • Knowledge of adolescent development issues;
  • Skill in creating a comfortable atmosphere for conducting client and family interviews and for facilitating group sessions;
  • Skill in conducting successful interviews;
  • Skill in effective group facilitation;
  • Skill in making appropriate assessments;
  • Skill in developing and/or implementing case plans;
  • Skill in communicating with individuals who may be in stressful situations and diverse populations;
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries while developing healthy, supportive relationships.
  • Ability to operate and utilize computer applications necessary to perform job functions to include MS Office programs;
  • Ability to use professional judgment in the application of appropriate policies and guidelines;
  • Ability to effectively work as a team member;
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of agencies within the community;
  • Ability to plan and organize work;
  • Ability to understand and interpret rules, policies and laws;
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to effectively work with and counsel youth and /or adults;
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with individuals in crisis, including small children;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of agencies within the court system and community;
  • Ability to adapt to changing case management operational needs and conditions;
  • Ability to ensure effective and adequate flow of information with stakeholders;
  • Ability to develop and sustain collaborative working relationships with other members of the staff as well as both internal and external partners to accomplish agency goals.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Incumbent must have a strong desire to work with at-risk youth and their families;
  • Must adhere to the Code of Ethics, Values and Policies of Ada County Juvenile Services;
  • This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.;
  • Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
