Family Therapist/Counselor

Evergreen Family Counseling is an agency in the Columbia River Gorge that has been serving clients referred to and involved with the Washington state Department of Children Youth and Families in Clark, Skamania and Klickitat counties for the past 10 years.

Evergreen is currently hiring two full time therapist positions in Clark County to work with at-risk children and families.

Sub-contractors are 1099 self-employed contractors.

  • The job is primarily in client homes, and in a home office. A secure home office space and a computer and printer is required.

Family Therapist/Counselor sub-contractor position to provide individualized in-home counseling and parenting education. Family Preservation Services help families improve parenting skills and family stability by providing in-home support with stabilization, crisis and family counseling, resource coordination, and case management services for families.

Areas that often need to be addressed with families include positive parenting strategies, child development education, preventing child maltreatment, family counseling and family systems, past traumas, depression, substance abuse, and other struggles that can contribute to family challenges. Advocacy and connecting families with needed resources and supports are some of the great rewards of this position.

Clients referred for services are voluntary and seen as possessing strengths and motivation favorable to benefiting from counseling and case management activities. Clients are families with parent-teenager conflict or parents of younger children where there are concerns about the parents' parenting knowledge/skills and/or child abuse/neglect.

Families in Washington are also able to self refer for support and family counseling.

Scheduling is very flexible and can include both day and occasional evening client appointments, or weekends if desired (weekends not required).

This position requires a dedicated professional who is compassionate, self-motivated, experienced with the client population, extremely organized, has strong technical writing skills, and is computer proficient with use of Word, Excel, and Adobe.

Program specific training and supervision are provided.

The position also requires someone with strong family counseling skills who is able to quickly form a therapeutic relationship with families and help them develop goals and an action plan to address the specific challenges they are facing.

Services employ a social work model, assessing the family in their home environment. Strengths/needs based counseling services are provided (Motivational Interviewing/Trauma Informed approach) and the families are also supported to expand their support networks and connections with appropriate community resources. Family counselors have access to limited funds to assist families with concrete needs.

Requirements: MA/MSW/MS+1 year minimum family and child work experience or BSW/BA/BS in a counseling related field plus 2 years child/family work required. Current WA Department of Health certification or license is ideal; must be willing to obtain.

However, it may qualify under Certified Advisor, but would need to clarification with WA Department of Health

Financial support is offered for obtaining required certification.

A degree in a social service, psychology, social work or counseling related field is required.

You must have your own vehicle, current driver license, obtain CPR and First Aid certification and maintain professional liability insurance. A Washington business license is required for subcontractors. You will also need to pass an FBI background check, paid for by Evergreen Family Counseling.

Fluency in Spanish is a plus, not a requirement. $38-$43 hourly, DOE/education, $38 hourly travel time, + generous mileage reimbursement.
