The Software Dev Engineer 4 is a professional full-stack role that requires significant knowledge of industry practices and organizational standards. This role will help build out software tools and systems to support our AI Agent-based initiatives in discovering genealogically significant data around the web. Working in close collaboration with our AI engineers, you will have the opportunity to build AI agents and MCP servers.
As an experienced member of a development team, the individual is encouraged to solve complex technical issues and programming tasks. The individual may be asked to act as a technical lead on projects or solutions with moderate complexity or scope.
This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel.
Build and orchestrate AI agents using frameworks such as LangGraph, enabling complex, autonomous workflows.
Design and build software systems that support the team’s development strategy, primarily in Python but could also be some Java involved.
Deploy and maintain software running on AWS.
Seek out and understand users' needs and evangelize them when evaluating work
As a member of a software engineering team, participate in team meetings, team planning sessions, setting team goals, and all other team activities
Build and maintain relationships with other teams to promote collaboration
Assist in sourcing and recruiting world-class team members
Estimate the time to develop and deliver features as defined by product management
Participate in peer reviews of project software design and coding
Develop source code and unit tests according to technical designs
Provide formal training, mentoring, or pair programming with other less-experienced engineers
Integrate and support communication protocols such as A2A (Agent-to-Agent) and MCP (Model Context Protocol) to facilitate modular, distributed processing
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience
Experience:
- Six years of progressive relevant professional experience
- Strong understanding of Agile Software Development methodologies and principles
- Solid base of learning and experience in all primary areas of an n-tier enterprise system (e.g., interface, domain logic, and database layers)
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to mentor and train peers
- Exceptional troubleshooter with the ability to solve problems in a timely manner under pressure
- Strong skills in engineering/programming, analytical/diagnostic/troubleshooting, web technology, and programming methodology
- Solid understanding of systems and subsystems
- Familiarity with cloud-based platforms and services
- Strong understanding of DevSecOps
- Strong understanding of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery principles
- Advanced knowledge of applicable software, computer languages, and code required for the role
- Proven aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies and programming languages
- Ability to work in a professional office environment
- Must meet physical requirements such as prolonged sitting and use of computer monitors/equipment
Preferred:
- Extensive experience with complex, large-scale systems
- Strong experience in the tools, methodologies, and technologies the role supports
