Job Purpose:

The Commis Chef is responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food under the guidance of senior kitchen staff. The role involves learning and developing culinary skills while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and food safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and production of food items as directed by the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients.
  • Follow recipes and portion controls accurately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and workstations.
  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries and stock.
  • Practice proper food handling techniques and comply with all hygiene and safety regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Take initiative to learn and develop new cooking techniques and menu items.
  • Minimize food waste through effective planning and preparation.
  • Assist in stock checks and inventory control when required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment, food preparation, and cooking methods.
  • Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts is an advantage.
  • 0–2 years of experience in a similar role (freshers may be considered).
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Good communication and time-management skills.
  • High standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long hours.
  • Must be able to lift and carry kitchen equipment or ingredients up to 15kg.
  • Flexible to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays.
