Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Fiber Maintenance Engineer responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and restoring fiber optic networks to ensure high availability and service quality. The role involves fieldwork, fault resolution, preventive maintenance, and coordination with NOC and customer support teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fault identification, isolation, and rectification in fiber optic networks (FTTH / FTTx / Backbone).
- Handle fiber cuts, outages, and emergency restorations within SLA timelines.
- Carry out fiber splicing (fusion & mechanical) and joint closure activities.
- Conduct OTDR testing, power meter testing, and link performance analysis.
- Maintain and repair ODF, FDH, FDB, splice enclosures, and patch panels.
- Coordinate with NOC, field teams, and vendors during outages and planned maintenance.
- Execute preventive maintenance (PM) activities to reduce future faults.
- Maintain accurate fault reports, maintenance logs, and network documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards while working at heights, trenches, and roadside locations.
- Support customer escalations related to fiber connectivity issues.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma / BE / BTech in Electronics, Telecommunications, Networking, or related field.
- Hands-on experience in fiber optic maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of single-mode & multi-mode fiber, splicing techniques, and testing tools.
- Familiarity with OTDR, fusion splicer, power meter, and visual fault locator (VFL).
- Understanding of FTTH architecture, backbone, and last-mile networks.
- Ability to work in 24x7 shifts and emergency situations.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in ISP or telecom environment.
- Knowledge of GIS mapping, route diagrams, and network layouts.
- Valid two-wheeler license for field movement.
