Fiber Technician

Job Summary:

Responsible for the end-to-end installation, splicing, testing, and commissioning of fiber optic and data cabling for telecom infrastructure. Serves as the main practical resource for all fiber and data works, including panel assembly, cable routing, testing, and fault troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, and terminate fiber and data panels, racks, and patch panels.
• Perform fiber optic cable laying, splicing, termination, and patching for telecom systems.
• Install and terminate Cat6/Cat6A cabling and RJ45 connectors in racks, panels, and trays.
• Conduct optical testing using OTDR, power meters, and light sources to verify fiber quality and connectivity.
• Lay and secure cables, prepare trays and pathways, and maintain proper labeling and documentation.
• Use hand and power tools, including drills, saws, and cutting equipment, to support installation of panels, cable trays, and other fiber infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and rectify faults in fiber and data cabling during installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Maintain site cleanliness, safety, and adherence to HSE and electrical safety standards.
• Collaborate closely with project engineers to implement fiber and data designs practically and efficiently.

Qualifications

• Diploma or certification in Telecom, IT, Electrical/Instrumentation Technology, or equivalent.
• Strong practical knowledge of fiber optic splicing, termination, testing, and panel assembly.
• Hands-on experience with OTDR, light source, power meters, fusion splicers, and related fiber/data tools.
• Skilled in cable routing, panel assembly, labeling, and installation best practices.
• UAE driving license is mandatory.

Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in fiber optic and data cabling installation, panel assembly, and commissioning.
• Proven experience in telecom or utility projects, with strong practical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Recognized as the primary practical resource for fiber/data works on-site, capable of independently handling complex installations and testing.
