Fiberglass Technician (Boat & Automotive)

Job Summary

The Fiberglass Technician is responsible for repairing, fabricating, and finishing fiberglass components for boats, marine vessels, automobiles, and other composite structures. The role involves working with fiberglass materials, resins, gel coats, and composite products to ensure high-quality repairs and manufacturing standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect fiberglass boat hulls, decks, automotive body panels, and composite components for damage.
  • Perform fiberglass repairs, restoration, and fabrication work on marine and automotive parts.
  • Prepare surfaces by sanding, grinding, cleaning, and masking before repair or finishing.
  • Apply fiberglass mat, cloth, resin, and gel coat according to specifications.
  • Mix and apply polyester, vinyl ester, or epoxy resins safely and accurately.
  • Repair cracks, dents, holes, delamination, and structural damage.
  • Mold, shape, and finish fiberglass parts to required dimensions and quality standards.
  • Perform color matching, polishing, buffing, and final finishing work.
  • Read and interpret repair instructions, technical drawings, and work orders.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and clean condition.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training in fiberglass repair, composites, marine repair, or automotive body repair is preferred.
  • Proven experience in fiberglass repair and fabrication for boats, yachts, automotive panels, or composite structures.
  • Knowledge of fiberglass materials, resins, gel coats, and repair techniques.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, grinders, sanders, and spray equipment.
  • Good understanding of workplace safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
