Job Description Summary
The Field Applications Engineer (FAE) is responsible for providing expert technical support and guidance for ground search metal detector technologies. This role serves as a key technical liaison between engineering, sales, and customers, ensuring successful product deployment, training, and operational performance in the field. The FAE conducts product demonstrations, leads customer and partner training sessions, and assists in evaluating customer requirements to recommend optimal solutions. In addition to supporting pre-sales and post-sales activities, the role includes troubleshooting, technical documentation, and feedback collection to support ongoing product improvement. The FAE must be capable of working independently in diverse environments, communicating complex technical information clearly, and upholding a high standard of professionalism and technical competence during frequent travel and customer engagements.

Technical Expertise and Product Support
- Serve as the company’s subject matter expert in ground search and demining technologies across military and humanitarian applications.
- Provide advanced technical support for current and prospective key account customers, ensuring effective problem resolution and product integration.
- Participate in product trials, customer engagements, and technical evaluations; generate detailed technical reports to document findings and recommendations.
- Maintain deep product knowledge across all relevant equipment and technologies to support evolving customer needs.
- In addition to core responsibilities in ground search systems, all Field Applications Engineers are expected to develop cross-functional proficiency in CEIA’s walk-through metal detector (WTMD) product line. This includes training, support, and deployment responsibilities to ensure well-rounded technical coverage across field applications.
Customer Engagement and Relationship Building
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders at both technical and leadership levels.
- Gather and communicate critical customer feedback to engineering and R&D teams to support continuous product improvement.
- Collaborate with Sales and Technical teams to support pre-sales discussions, customer visits, and technical solution development.
Collaboration and Strategic Development
- Partner with internal departments, including R&D and T&M Laboratories, to test, certify, and standardize new products and system components.
- Assist in developing internal documentation, procedures, and best practices to enhance team knowledge and operational consistency.
- Support the creation and refinement of custom solutions for new business opportunities and unique field challenges.
Events, Presentations, and Training
- Represent the company at industry events, exhibitions, and trade shows; assist with technical presentations and product demonstrations.
- Deliver technical training and educational sessions to customers, partners, and internal stakeholders as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while ensuring customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or equivalent in a technical or military field

3-5 years of hands-on experience in demining operations, with demonstrated knowledge of detection technologies, environmental factors, and soil composition

Previous experience with Department of Defense in an EOD capacity

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Education, Experience, and Knowledge
- Bachelors degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering
- Several years of technical experience in demining including knowledge of detection technologies and soil composition
- Previous experience with Department of Defense in an EOD capacity

Working Conditions
The work environment for this position is dynamic and varies based on assignment. Field Application Engineers operate in a range of settings, including warehouses, offices, outdoor environments, and prison facilities, each with its unique conditions and requirements. When not working in the field, this position operates out of CEIA’s office in Hudson, OH.
While working in warehouse environments, employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Noise levels can be loud, and environmental conditions may include heat, cold, rain, snow, or high humidity. In prison settings, employees must adhere to the specific rules and regulations of the facility.
This position also involves routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Duties may include working at a desk, using a computer, and communicating via phone or in person. Occasional physical activities include standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, and using hand tools or small power tools.
Employees must occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 70 pounds. The physical demands of this role include the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle tools or equipment, reach with arms, climb, and hear or speak as needed.
Travel is required 90% of the time. Must be available to CONUS, OCONUS and internationally. Overnight and weekend travel is required.
