Job Description

Join us as a Field Applications Scientist (FAS) and assist us in our mission to become the world leader in serving science. This dynamic position involves providing scientific training, guidance, application support and troubleshooting. In the Protein and Cell Analysis unit, we innovate scientific solutions, support research, and improve understanding of health and disease through our products and sites.

This is a field-based role, involving extensive travel across the Southwestern US. The successful candidate must live within the assigned territory with occasional support provided to customers in other areas of the US. When not traveling, the FAS will complete administrative tasks and support customers remotely from home.

How will you make an impact?

The Field Application Scientist (FAS) will provide scientific expertise, application support, and training to customers on Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Invitrogen imaging and detection instruments through diverse communication methods. These include:

  • In-person, phone, remote, or email interactions, working with field sales reps to handle pre- and post-sales customer support tasks and resolve issues effectively.
  • Perform product demonstrations and training at customer/company sites as well as remotely
  • Diagnose and resolve product performance problems and customer queries/complaints
  • Work with sales representatives on sales calls to customer laboratories to provide technical and applications assistance in response to customer inquiries
  • Assist the regional sales team in the development of accounts by giving technical seminars and presentations that promote the use of our products
  • Maintain up-to-date technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of our product portfolio, while staying current on scientific trends and innovations.
  • Act as a trusted authority to improve customer satisfaction and dedication, contributing to overall business success.

How will you get here?

Education

  • BA or BS in Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Stem Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field. (Masters preferred)

Experience

  • Experience in presenting technical materials in written and verbal form; teaching experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in handling imaging experiments and equipment– understanding of setting up and resolving issues in experiments (in-depth knowledge of sample preparation, acquisition, and precise controls).
  • Customer-facing experience, with the ability to connect with and support people optimally with varying levels of technical knowledge and expertise
  • Good computer and/or IT skills and have a curiosity about groundbreaking technology.
  • Willingness to work from a remote home office and travel extensively (up to 75% weekly), including frequent overnights
  • Demonstrations and installations may involve moving equipment, requiring the manual dexterity and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an imaging facility.
  • 3 or more years of laboratory experience with high-end imaging.
  • Experience with the EVOS, Varioskan, and/or iBright.
  • Experience with Spatial Proteomics.
  • Prior exposure to interacting with customers and/or delivering technical and scientific presentations to diverse groups.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $66,000.00–$90,000.00.
