The position

The Field Engineer will oversee and execute civil and energy-efficient construction activities in line with AKAH standards and national codes. The role includes conducting energy audits, supervising civil works, integrating green building practices, and ensuring quality, safety, and timely project delivery. The Field Engineer will coordinate with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders, maintain accurate documentation, and support reporting, BOQs, cost estimates, and project schedules.

This position is based in the regional office AKAH, Pakistan Gilgit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct building energy audits, analyze results, and recommend energy-efficient solutions.
  • Integrate green building practices and energy-saving materials into construction and retrofitting projects.
  • Supervise civil works including foundations, structures, masonry, retrofitting, and finishing activities.
  • Monitor quality of materials and workmanship, ensuring compliance with national codes and AKAH standards.
  • Prepare BOQs, cost estimates, schedules, and support reporting on project progress.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to resolve site issues and track work progress.
  • Enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) guidelines on site and promote sustainable construction practices.
  • Maintain accurate site documentation, drawings, approvals, and support preparation of as-built and handover packages.

The requirements

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (BE/BS) with 2–5 years of relevant experience, or DAE with 5–7 years of experience.
  • Experience in sustainable, climate-resilient, and energy-efficient construction or retrofitting projects is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering codes, BOQs, and structural drawings.
  • Knowledge of green construction materials, retrofitting techniques, and disaster-resilient building practices.
  • Proficient in MS Office; knowledge of AutoCAD is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and perform effectively in field conditions.
This position requires extensively travelling across Gilgit-Baltistan

A new agency, the Aga Khan Agency for the Habitat (AKAH), works to ensure that people live in physical settings that are as safe as possible from the effects of natural disasters, that residents who do live in such high risk areas are able to cope with disasters in terms of preparedness and response, and that these settings provide access to social and financial services that lead to greater opportunities and a better quality of life.
