Field Mechanic

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on customer equipment and vehicles.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and post-repair testing to support safe, reliable operation.
• Use schematics and diagnostic tools to identify problems and document labor, parts, and findings accurately.
• Travel to customer sites to service customer equipment and vehicles; respond to urgent service calls as needed.
• Operate and maintain a company service truck, manage onboard inventory, communicate updates clearly, and follow all safety and site rules.

Requirements

• Required:
• High school diploma or GED.
• 5+ years of heavy equipment or diesel repair experience in a shop or field service environment.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; Class A or B CDL required.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, mechanical repairs, and modern diagnostics.
• Ability to read schematics and technical manuals and use scan tools, meters, and gauges.
• Willingness to travel with periodic overnight stays and work outdoors in all weather.
• Strong problem-solving, time management, and customer communication skills.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs, pass a background check and drug screen, and provide basic hand tools.
• Preferred:
• Vocational or technical training, or certifications in diesel, brakes, or electrical systems.
• Prior field service experience working independently and managing a service truck.
• Experience in energy, rail, or utility environments.
• Basic welding or hydraulic hose fabrication experience.
• Shifts
• Typical schedule is 21 days on and 7 days off, with flexibility based on customer needs

Compensation

• $32.00 – $36.00/hour based on experience and certifications
• Fully equipped take-home service truck and fuel card provided after training
• All travel and lodging expenses covered
• $50 daily per diem paid directly on paycheck
