The Field Operations Manager oversees the management of self-performing aspects of utility scale solar, substation, and BESS installations ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high-quality and safety standards. They lead and manage a team of field technicians, handle project planning, budgeting, and vendor relationships, and maintain strong client satisfaction. Additionally, they ensure regulatory compliance, promote sustainability initiatives, and provide technical support and quality control throughout all field operations.


Supervisory Responsibilities

The Field Operations Manager oversees a team of supervisors, and craft personnel providing leadership, mentoring, and performance management. They also manage relationships with Clients, third-party vendors and contractors, ensuring compliance and evaluating their performance.


Duties/Responsibilities

  • Fosters a strong Safety culture-leads by example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude
  • Leads by example, demonstrating that Safety is the most important function ensuring that employees follow safe practices.
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of solar, HV substation, and BESS installation projects.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Coordinate with Directors, p-Project Managers, Project Superintendents, Engineers, Superintendents, Foreman and other stakeholders.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of field supervisors and craft personnel.
  • Sets the expectations with Superintendents and craft to align with the company and the client's safety and quality programs.
  • Supports site teams to ensure page turns, drawing reviews, Standard Work Instructions, Inspection and Test Plan template reviews are completed prior to work commencing.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide training and development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures and best practices.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior management.
  • Manage inventory, tools, and equipment for field operations.
  • Ensure all field operations comply with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety training and audits.
  • Investigate and resolve any safety incidents or issues.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Address and resolve any client concerns or issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide regular project updates to clients and stakeholders.
  • Implement and oversee quality control procedures to ensure high standards of workmanship and materials.
  • Conduct site inspections and quality assessments regularly.
  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors and contractors.
  • Negotiate contracts and ensure compliance with terms and conditions.
  • Evaluate vendor and contractor performance.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for field operations.
  • Track and report on financial performance, including cost control and efficiency measures.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to field teams during installation and maintenance processes.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in solar HV substation, and BESS technology and integrate them into operations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all field activities, including work orders, project timelines, and maintenance logs.
  • Prepare detailed reports for senior management, outlining project progress, performance metrics, and any issues encountered.
  • Ensure all field operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards.
  • Stay informed about changes in regulations and adjust operational procedures accordingly.
  • Complies with all company policies.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in field operations, preferably in the solar HV substation, and BESS or renewable energy sector.
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) are a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, walking, and standing.
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and other team members.
  • When navigating a job site, the ability to move around project sites, which may involve walking, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven terrain.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Travel:

  • Ability to travel up to 75%.
