Position Summary: The Field Operator will be responsible for the local operations of the plant to ensure it meets the required availability, reliability, efficiency, generation and cost targets, safely and within strict environmental limits. This includes regular equipment start ups, shutdowns, changeovers and ongoing monitoring, responding to alarms and emergency conditions. The role requires a detailed understanding and practical experience of the technologies used to operate a modern Gas Turbine Plant, Desalination Plant and a wide range of auxiliary equipment.

Safety, Quality & Environment
  • Ensure compliance of the Integrated Management System (IMS). Perform all operational activities in line with the safety and environment management systems.
  • Perform the assigned duties in accordance with safety rules.
  • Monitor ongoing maintenance jobs in the assigned areas.
  • Report unsafe conditions and behaviours.
Plant Operations
  • Conduct routine plant checks, including plant round ups and completion of log sheets.
  • Perform operational actions under direction from the CRO (e.g., valve operations, switching pumps on/off, resetting local alarms) to avoid abnormal plant operations or correct existing abnormalities.
  • Prepare the plant for start ups according to approved procedures.
  • Execute plant shutdown and extended shutdown preservation routines in accordance with approved procedures, perform manual interventions during trip conditions and supervise safe run down of the plant.
  • Apply safety rules when isolating the plant from the system for routine maintenance; re integrate equipment safely.
  • Carry out routine maintenance activities such as lube oil top up, filter replacement and other operational tasks.
  • Support the CRO during emergency situations.
  • Carry out sample analysis of the plant process steam water cycle when a chemist is not on site (Demin water, distillate, portable water and other samples).
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of various plant systems and equipment.
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping of the plant.
  • Initiate routine operational activities.
  • Complete the field operator skill matrix and act as CRO, taking full responsibility of the power and desal blocks as CRO.
Maintenance Activities
  • Perform lube oil top ups on plant equipment as required.
  • Conduct routine site inspections to update plant equipment status.
  • Carry out dewatering routines in specified areas of the plant as required.
Raising Work Orders for Defects and Abnormal Conditions
  • Raise service requests in the system for defects and coordinate with the Shift Engineer for approval.
  • Assist maintenance personnel in pinpointing equipment defects when necessary.
Management of Plant Chemicals
  • Handle changing over of chemical tanks.
Maintaining Water Quality
  • Ensure export quality of potable water meets WHO guidelines and the potable water quality standard set in agreement.
Policies & Procedures
  • Follow all relevant operational procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
Communications & Working Relationships
  • Communicate daily about plant operational issues and defects with the CRO, Shift Engineer and other team members.
  • Coordinate and cooperate daily with the CRO and maintenance staff for routine and emergency operations and maintenance activities.
  • Follow the shift hand over protocol and communication protocol as per approved procedures.
Framework, Boundaries & Decision Making Authority
  • The job holder operates under the general guidance of the CRO.
  • Any extraordinary issues arising outside set policies and procedures are referred to the CRO/Shift In charge for discussion and approval of recommended actions.
Accountable for Outcomes
  • Plant HSE objectives and goals.
  • Audit compliance to corporate, safety and environment standards.
  • Report incidents and near misses; perform safety walk downs per KPIs.
  • Quality of operations: round ups, log sheets, data entry, and raised work orders.
  • Maintenance of plant water chemistry, distillate and potable water quality.
  • Proper application of isolations and de isolations per safety documentation.li>
  • Efficient management of plant chemicals.
  • Effective planning of safe chemical tank change over.
  • Compliance with portable water quality requirements.
  • Completion of the operator skill matrix for personal development.
