Field Service Technician

The ideal candidate will have a wide range of responsibilities including maintenance, repair, and calibration of field equipment in Injection Molding. The successful candidate will be a problem solver who is responsive to customers' needs. General Position Summary

Provides installation, repair, and maintenance of our Client IMM products at customer locations throughout the United States. Work duties include installing and start-up of new machinery, providing product training to customers, performing field service work (both minor and major repairs), providing product technical support, and preparing new machines for customer shipping and installation.

Essential Job Functions

Technical Service

  • Promptly responds to work directions from Customer Service Manager.
  • · Fields phone calls and provides over-the-phone consultation and advice to customer and/or may need to respond to emergency customer situation and/or may schedule and repair machines at customer site.
  • · Performs machine preparation including cleaning, installation devices and changing components and parts (internal and external); Installs options on new machines (e.g., wiring, drilling, etc.)
  • · Performs on-site technical services including machine installation & start-up, machine repair (minor and major) and troubleshooting, customer training, and machine system modification.
  • · May perform routine periodic preventative maintenance on equipment as needed.
  • Customer Service & Support· Performs software and hardware installations.
  • · Performs all safety checks on equipment.
  • · Educates customers on equipment and instructs them on proper operation.
  • · Provides technical support to external/internal customers. Develops and maintains superior customer relations, coordinates, and service as a liaison with internal resources to ensure effective customer service as well as provide telephone support to upper-level Service Technicians.
  • · Orders replacement parts, troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with control systems and develops an organized approach to solving machine problems and repairs/replaces parts as required.
  • · Repairs and/or replaces any component on machines, robots, or product handling equipment.
  • · Provides written reports on a regular basis to the Service Manager.
  • · Troubleshoots and repairs injection molding machines and robots, including performing conducting tests and inspections on all mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic or software components.
  • · Assists/advises customers via telephone or on-site when technical difficulties arise.
  • · Troubleshoots and makes corrections as required to all current control systems; calibrates machines to achieve optimum performance and sets-up and maintains machines.
  • · Provides telephone support to customer staff or customer operators.
  • · Troubleshoots and makes corrections as required to all systems, including controls, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical and electronic systems, and the programmable controls.
  • · Calibrates/fine tunes machines to achieve optimum performance.
  • · Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with current control systems.
  • · Provides follow-up support to customers post resolution of technical issues.
  • · Adjusts process variables as required in order to produce parts of acceptable quality.
  • · Provides guidance and/or on-the-job training to junior Service Technicians. Develops an organized approach to solving machine problems by using all available reference materials, including manuals, drawings, procedures, etc.

Other & Miscellaneous

  • · Seeks constant improvement, more efficient and less expensive means in work processes.
  • · Performs data entry and technical support documentation as needed.
  • · Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties as assigned by manager and other senior DJAI management.
  • · Maintains high ethical standards in the workplace.
  • · Reports all irregular issues and problems to management for solution.
  • · Maintains good communication with other managers, DJAI staff & outside contacts.
  • · Complies with all company policies and procedures.
  • · Accurately and promptly completes and submits all pertinent billing and paperwork so that PMD records are up to date and accurate.
  • · Promptly submits accurate work-related travel reimbursement forms.
  • · Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working area.

Job Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

Critical Competencies

· Knowledge of blueprints and schematics to troubleshoot electrical/electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems

· Good communication skills

· Knowledge of plastic processing

· Knowledge of injection molding processing

· Knowledge and understanding of injection molding process

· Ability to troubleshoot problems systematically

· Ability to rebuild an injection and clamp unit

· Ability to level a machine and a robot, adjust nozzle concentricity, platen parallelism, and tie-bar stretch

· Knowledgeable in materials such as PET, Polypropylene, Polyethylene, Styrene, and other common materials

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong customer service orientation

· Tact and diplomacy, i.e., must possess the ability to handle difficult or unhappy customers

· Demonstrated initiative-taker with a positive attitude

· Dedicated team player

· Able to work independently with minimal back office (engineering, spare parts, phone/technical support)

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements

· Associate’s degree (AA) degree and/or technical/certification training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Experience Requirements

· 2+ years in Injection Molding troubleshooting or processing or prior experience as a Field Service Injection Molding Technician/Service Engineer

Tools & Equipment Used

  • · General office equipment including phones, fax, copier, scanner, personal computer, handheld calculator. Software includes the use of Windows operating system, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • · Mobile communications equipment including laptop computer, cellular phone.
  • · Basic hand tools, Electrical DMM, oscilloscopes, power monitoring equipment, fork trucks, welding (arc welding and mig welding), machine tools (milling machine, surface grinder, and lathe).
  • · Personal Protective Equipment includes safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, safety shoes, steel-toed shoes as needed.

The following travel and driving requirements are required of the incumbent into this position.
