Field Service Technician - Commercial Laundry Equipment

We are a small, five-person company specializing in the sales, installation, and service of commercial laundry and dry-cleaning equipment. Because we are small, every team member plays an important role in keeping the business running smoothly.

Position Overview

The Field Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, installing, and maintaining commercial laundry equipment at customer locations.

This role also includes shop support duties such as loading/unloading equipment, cleaning work areas, organizing tools, and assisting with general facility upkeep. In a small company, everyone contributes.

Primary Responsibilities

Service & Repair

  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical problems
  • Identify required replacement parts
  • Install parts and test for proper and safe operation
  • Aim to resolve issues on the first visit whenever possible
  • Communicate clearly with customers about findings and next steps
  • Coordinate parts needs with our Parts Manager
  • Keep equipment safely operational when possible if parts are delayed

Installation & Delivery

  • Load equipment onto trailers or service vehicles
  • Deliver and offload equipment at job sites
  • Connect to existing utilities including:
  • High pressure steam
  • Compressed air
  • Natural gas
  • Exhaust ducting
  • Cold and hot water supply
  • Test and verify safe operation after installation

Daily Workflow

  • Arrive at 7:30 AM
  • Review daily schedule
  • Load required tools and parts
  • Travel to job sites (within 2-hour radius)
  • Communicate arrival times or delays to customers

General Duties

  • Maintain a clean shop and organized workspace
  • Take out trash and assist with general facility upkeep
  • Support team members as needed

Qualifications

Required:

  • Clean driving record
  • Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience
  • Comfortable using power tools and hand tools
  • Professional appearance and customer communication skills
  • Willingness to travel daily within 2-hour radius
  • Ability to lift, load, and move equipment

Tools Required (Technician-owned):

  • Power drill
  • Spanner wrenches
  • Adjustable wrenches
  • Screwdrivers
  • Hammers
  • Socket set
  • Nut drivers
  • Small sledge hammer
  • General hand tools

(Company provides major power tools and service vehicle.)

Preferred but Not Required:

  • Experience with commercial equipment
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, gas piping, or welding
  • Experience diagnosing industrial controls

Certifications are not required. We provide on-the-job training and hands-on mentorship with our existing technician.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $30/hour
  • Overtime paid at 1.5x
  • Work hours generally consistent, though 40 hours is not contractually guaranteed
