Field Support Engineer

Company Description:

P3Mobility is a connected vehicle technology company advancing the future of transportation through innovative Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) solutions. We partner with government agencies, transportation officials, and private-sector leaders to deploy cutting-edge software and infrastructure that improve safety, reduce congestion, and enable smarter mobility systems. Our work spans everything from pilot projects and grant-funded deployments to large-scale commercial rollouts. As a fast-paced, mission-driven organization, we value creativity, impact, and the ability to turn complex technical challenges into real-world results.

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Field Support Engineer to join our team. The Field Support Engineer owns first-line technical response for production deployments. This role is responsible for diagnosing and stabilizing networked edge systems deployed in public infrastructure environments.

You will convert ambiguous field symptoms into structured diagnoses, isolate root causes across network and Linux-based systems, and deliver engineering-ready escalation packages when needed. You will work directly with public-sector clients, hardware vendors, and internal engineering.

This is a mid-level production operations role requiring strong networking fundamentals, Linux fluency, and disciplined troubleshooting methodology.

Why This Role Matters? Our systems operate in active transportation networks. When they fail, agencies notice. This role protects system uptime, protects engineering focus, and reinforces trust with public-sector partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead intake, triage, and severity classification for production incidents
  • Serve as first technical responder for high-priority issues
  • Drive issues to resolution or structured escalation
  • Communicate clearly with public-sector stakeholders during active incidents
  • Diagnose routing, VPN, firewall, NAT, DNS, and port-related issues
  • Perform packet capture analysis using tcpdump and Wireshark
  • Validate TLS/certificate flows and secure communications
  • SSH into Linux-based roadside/edge systems to inspect logs, services, and containerized applications
  • Verify Docker-based services and service dependencies
  • Support deployments at roadside or partner facilities (~25% travel)
  • Coordinate with agencies, contractors, and hardware vendors
  • Validate network configurations, reachability, and system baselines during site visits
  • Produce high-quality incident artifacts: logs, configs, timestamps, network traces
  • Eliminate “cannot reproduce” cycles by providing structured repro documentation
  • Maintain clear incident timelines and root cause documentation
  • Maintain and refine runbooks and diagnostic checklists
  • Document known-good baselines for deployed sites
  • Identify recurring failure patterns and recommend reliability improvements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automotive Engineering, or related fields.
  • 3–5+ years hands-on production network troubleshooting
  • Strong TCP/IP fundamentals (routing, subnets, NAT, VPNs, TLS)
  • Experience troubleshooting distributed systems
  • Strong Linux command-line proficiency
  • Fluency with tcpdump, traceroute, ss/netstat, nc, curl, and log analysis
  • Experience SSH’ing into remote systems and diagnosing services
  • Clear written communication for incident summaries and stakeholder updates
  • Comfortable interacting with public-sector clients
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting IoT or edge deployments
  • Familiarity with AWS networking concepts (VPC, security groups, IAM basics)
  • Experience in V2X, transportation, ITS, or public infrastructure environments
  • Exposure to certificate management / PKI / secure communications
  • Experience working with hardware vendors in constrained field environments
