Job Duties

The Department of Corrections enhances public safety by providing effective programs, re-entry services, and supervision of sentenced offenders in a humane, cost-efficient manner, consistent with sound correctional principles and constitutional standards. Field Technology's Services team within IT Unit sets up and supports Inmate use Technology for Education, Programs and Reentry and DOC Operations.

The Field Technology Lead provides technical advice, guidance, and implementation of complex work problems involving educational and DOC Operations software products such as AZTEC, Lexis, Nexis, GED Academy, Auto CAD, Teknimedia, Alexandria, Elevate, and similar software packages. Provides technical support of complex work problems involving computer technology to include workstation and server hardware, software and operating systems, networking hardware, software, and infrastructure, and various operating systems software. Responsibilities include independently installing, updating and management of applications and hardware throughout VADOC.

Responsible for ensuring consistency of Technical Standards, Field Technology Health, and Consistency of Operations for a Group of Facilities assigned/ staff assigned to lead. Provides supervisory oversight and guidance for the group of facilities assigned to subordinates. Ensures consistency of Field Technology - operational processes, technical standards, assets production state, delivery, and implementation at the group of facilities and group of subordinates assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable and recent experience working in the computer support field with desktop, server & network set up, installation, and support/maintenance is required. Advanced experience with installation, support, and troubleshooting for windows operating systems like Win10 and Server Operating Systems like Server 2012/2016/2019 is required with associated products to include but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to set up, install and troubleshoot and resolve issues with network devices, desktop hardware, various operating systems, and associated software in a LAN/standalone environment, and networked environment. Knowledge of administrative and office management principles and practices. Ability to work effectively in a both a team and independent environment. Advanced knowledge of computer software including operating systems and database programs. Must be able to perform with minimal direct supervision and may be required to use their home as a base of operation. This position is the lead technical support specialist for a group of facilities throughout the state and will function in a capacity to ensure that hardware and software configurations are standardized and assigned work is appropriately prioritized and delivered per the team standards and processes. Strong knowledge and experience with Agile Concepts, Practices, and Delivery. Experience working independently in a fast-paced delivery environment, ability to independently think through issues, and identify root causes and formulate potential solutions, ability to deconstruct, isolate and identify critical from the non-critical or non-urgent parking lot items rapidly and independently. Understanding of initial discovery, incremental delivery, and continuous improvement principles and practices. Experience with rapid discovery exercises, rapid proof of concepts and prototyping, small-scale pilots and incremental updates and continuous improvement. Understanding of project management principles. Identify problems along with solution recommendations - immediate, short, or long term with clearly thought through pros and cons.

This position is the lead technical specialist for a group of facilities assigned to the position and supported by direct reports. The position will function in a capacity to ensure that our hardware and software configurations are standardized across the group of facilities in line with approved team standards and processes and assigned work is accurately estimated, prioritized and completed by having the authority to schedule and direct the reportees daily working arrangements. The position will function in a capacity to ensure the subordinates adhere and follow team practices and process in the process of day-to-day work and delivery. The position is the functional lead for one of the core Field Technology functions and works closely with the Director of Field Technology and subordinates to identify and deliver initiatives with the assigned functional area.

This position requires significant amount of travel as the group of facilities shall not necessarily be determined based on the region of the state.

Supervisory experience leading in a fast paced environment and experience leading Agile Delivery and Leading technology operations.
