Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Finance & Tax Manager (Contract) to lead financial oversight and tax strategy for a renewable energy organization, with a primary focus on Investment Tax Credit (ITC) transfer transactions, tax credit monetization, and investor execution.
This senior, hands-on role is responsible for managing complex tax compliance, structuring and closing tax credit transactions, sourcing tax credit buyers, reducing transaction costs, and ensuring regulatory alignment across all subsidiaries.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in renewable energy tax credits, corporate finance, investor negotiations, and structured transaction execution, and thrives in a fast-moving, performance-driven environment.
This is an Independent Contractor (1099) position.
Primary Objectives
- Oversee finance operations for a renewable energy company.
- Lead ITC transfer transactions from structuring through closing.
- Identify and source tax credit buyers/investors.
- Drive fast, efficient investor closings.
- Develop and execute enterprise-wide tax strategy.
- Reduce costs related to insurance, brokerage, and transaction services.
- Maintain full compliance across all tax and financial functions.
Key ResponsibilitiesTax Credit Transfer & Investor Execution
- Identify, source, and negotiate with tax credit buyers and institutional investors.
- Manage investor relationships to achieve timely and efficient transaction closings.
- Lead pricing negotiations to maximize net proceeds.
- Coordinate investor due diligence and documentation processes.
- Streamline transaction workflow to reduce closing timelines.
- Optimize economics by reducing:
- Tax insurance costs
- Property insurance costs
- Tax credit broker fees
- Advisory and consulting fees
- Evaluate alternative structures to improve returns and mitigate risks.
Tax Strategy & Compliance Leadership
- Development and stewardship of overall tax strategy for the organization and all subsidiaries.
- Oversee identification, documentation, and compliance of renewable energy tax incentives.
- Ensure alignment with federal renewable energy tax regulations.
- Lead research on federal, state, and local tax credits and grants.
- Prepare tax planning reports and tax obligation estimates.
- Advise senior management on minimizing tax liabilities and risk exposure.
- Stay abreast of tax law changes and communicate operational impacts.
- Serve as lead contact for tax audits and tax-related legal proceedings.
- Maintain record retention compliance across all tax functions.
- Liaison with third-party tax preparers and advisors.
- Own tax software platforms and research libraries.
Tax Compliance & Preparation
- Oversee preparation and review of complex federal and state returns including:
- C Corporations
- S Corporations
- Partnerships
- Provide day-to-day support across complex tax compliance work.
- Manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Collaborate with partners and managers to ensure smooth workflow.
Corporate Finance & Financial Oversight
- Manage daily financial activities including accounting, budgeting, credit, insurance, tax, and treasury.
- Oversee financial reporting and fiscal management.
- Support pricing models, proposal development, and financial analysis.
- Provide technical financial guidance internally.
- Exercise discretion and professional judgment guided by company policies.
Legal & Vendor Coordination
- Collaborate with legal teams on contracts, licensing agreements, IP matters, and UCC considerations.
- Manage vendor relationships related to tax credit consulting and brokerage.
- Utilize DocuSign or similar platforms for contract execution.
- Maintain meticulous documentation standards.
- Demonstrate strong negotiation and contractor management skills.
- Adapt quickly to regulatory changes through structured change management practices.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance preferred
CPA preferred but not required
Experience:
- Strong understanding of Investment Tax Credits and renewable energy industry.
- Experience closing or supporting tax credit transfer transactions.
- Experience sourcing tax credit buyers or investors.
- Experience with multi-entity tax compliance environments.

Compensation Structure (Performance-Driven)
- Contract-based compensation (retainer, hourly, or hybrid structure).
- Performance bonus opportunity up to 100% of base contract compensation, based on measurable results including:
- Successful ITC transfer closings
- Investor sourcing and pricing achieved
- Speed of transaction execution
- Cost reduction achievements
- Compliance accuracy and audit readiness
- Bonus payouts may be structured quarterly, per transaction, or annually based on performance metrics.
