About Us
Springy is a venture-backed e-commerce company and the exclusive vintage sportswear partner to Fanatics, the world’s largest sports merchandising platform. We curate, authenticate, and sell vintage sports apparel through Fanatics’ marketplace, TikTok, and our own direct-to-consumer channels.
We are looking for a seasoned fractional Controller or finance director-level professional to own our financial operations, bring structure to our books, and serve as a strategic partner to leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
The Role
This is a two-phase engagement designed for someone who can first build the financial foundation and then maintain it on an ongoing basis.
Phase 1: Onboarding & Build-Out
During the initial engagement period, you will assess the current state of our financials and build the tools and processes we need to operate with clarity and discipline. This includes:
- Full review and cleanup of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger
- Establish chart of accounts and reporting structure appropriate for a venture-backed e-commerce business
- Build monthly financial reporting package (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statement)
- Develop a 12-month budget and rolling forecast model
- Set up cash flow tracking and projections
- Review and organize existing vendor contracts, subscriptions, and recurring expenses
- Identify and resolve any outstanding tax, compliance, or bookkeeping gaps
- Establish internal controls and approval workflows for spending
Phase 2: Monthly Maintenance & Strategic Support
Once the foundation is in place, you will transition to a monthly retainer covering ongoing financial management:
- Monthly close process: reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation
- Monthly budget vs. actual review with variance analysis and commentary
- Cash flow forecasting and runway monitoring
- Monthly budget/forecast meetings with leadership team
- Vendor and bill management: ensuring timely payments and accurate expense tracking
- Support on ad hoc financial analysis, investor reporting, and board materials as needed
- Annual closing of the books and coordination with external tax preparers/auditors
- Ongoing optimization of financial processes and systems
Who You Are
- 7+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or controllership: with meaningful time spent in e-commerce, DTC, or consumer brands
- CPA preferred; MBA or CFA a plus but not required
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, Xero, or similar accounting platforms
- Comfortable with e-commerce tools and data sources (Shopify, payment processors, marketplace platforms)
- Strong understanding of revenue recognition, inventory accounting, and cost of goods sold in an e-commerce context
- Experience working with venture-backed startups: you understand burn rate, runway, and investor reporting
- Able to build financial models from scratch and communicate findings clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Detail-oriented and process-driven, but flexible enough to work in a fast-moving startup environment
- Comfortable operating independently with minimal oversight
- Experience with multi-channel retail (marketplace + DTC + wholesale) is a strong plus
What We Offer
- Flexible, part-time engagement with a venture-backed brand at a pivotal growth stage
- Direct access to the CEO and executive team: your work will shape real business decisions
- Opportunity to build financial operations from the ground up
- A partnership with Fanatics, the largest player in sports retail
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
