The University of Virginia's Division of Student Affairs works for and alongside students to create the distinctive student experience for which UVA is known. The Division’s mission is to promote the intellectual, cultural, personal, and social development of students while enhancing their physical and psychological well-being. The Division is hiring a Finance Generalist and is seeking motivated and creative initiative takers to join the Division’s Finance team.

The Student Affairs Finance office is responsible for many finance functions in Student Affairs, including processing student organization funding, processing student award programs, and planning and managing the division's budgets. The team strives to provide financial information in order to help the division best support students and the community. The Generalist will specialize in financial transactions, reconciliations, budget tracking, expense approval, and monthly financial reporting. Finance Generalists are responsible for a variety of professional level work across various financial disciplines. They possess a solid financial background either gained through work experience or education, which allows them to assume a wide range of duties across multiple areas, including accounting, budget, payroll, financial aid, financial analysis, purchasing, or treasury. Finance Generalists work on behalf of a program, function, or department, independently executing a range of financial responsibilities, based on the organization's needs.

This position Is located In Charlottesville, VA. A hybrid work schedule is available after a probationary training period and is based on experience and performance, always subject to daily business needs.

Work done in support of Finance Team

  • Works closely with Finance Team to plan, monitor, create, and submit budgets and takes part in budget discussions with Division colleagues.
  • Ensures that all budget related documentation is kept organized and available electronically.
  • Assists Finance team colleagues as needed on Student Affairs data projects. Data is foundational to the work the division does and enables us to look at a subject from many different angles. Think and act with a data mindset.
  • The position is responsible for other special projects and duties as assigned by senior leadership.
  • Able to become an expert in Workday Financial, and Adaptive/AnaPlan processes and policies; advise on and implement account hierarchy, business processes, controls, budget projections models, and reporting; educate others on these processes and reports.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

    • Education: Bachelor's degree.
    • Experience: At least two years of experience.

  • Confident in learning new finance software/programs/processes as the University transitions.
  • Proficient in Excel and confident with databases/reporting tools.
  • Efficient in the processing of financial transactions.
  • Experience with financial reconciliations.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
