Pay Range: $10.00 - $500.00 per hour

Summary:
The Finance Intern will support financial and strategic activities within the Institute for Health Equity, with exposure to hospital finance, budgeting, and community investment analysis. The role is ideal for a motivated early-career learner interested in healthcare finance, financial literacy, and equity-focused initiatives. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with reviewing and analyzing budget data related to community investments and strategic initiatives within the Institute for Health Equity.
  • Participate in evaluating the impact of hospital investments on community health outcomes, leveraging data from past and current Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA).
  • Participate in financial literacy materials provided by West Side United
  • Prepare basic financial reports and summaries in Excel under the guidance of finance staff.
  • Attend internal meetings to gain exposure to hospital financial operations and strategic planning processes.
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned, including ad hoc analysis, benchmarking, and data collection related to health equity outcomes.
  • Assist with general administrative support and documentation related to finance activities.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Strong interest in healthcare finance and community impact
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a professional setting
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and efficiently.
  • Possess strong analytic and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a team of professionals.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data entry, sorting, simple formulas)
  • Prior internship or volunteer experience in a professional or healthcare setting
  • Familiarity with Rush’s mission and community engagement initiatives

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods (up to several hours at a time)
  • Occasional walking within hospital buildings
  • Mental focus and attention to detail for data analysis and project tasks
