Finance Intern

Position Summary:
The Corporate Finance Intern will support the finance team in analyzing and modeling homebuilding projects while developing foundational financial and analytical skills. This role offers hands-on experience with Adaptive Planning and Excel, including building basic financial models and reports. The intern will gain exposure to key business drivers by assisting in budget versus actual variance analysis and learning how financial data informs strategic decision-making within the homebuilding industry.


The program will be in session from June 8 – July 31 and based in Irvine, CA.

Job Duties:

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist in data entry of prospective homebuilding projects
  • Support preparation of budget to actuals, analyzing differences between plan variances
  • Assist in monthly financial reporting and variance analysis
  • Analyze community-level sales, margins, and operating performance
  • Contribute to the quarterly forecasting process


Learning Opportunities:

  • Participate in key corporate finance meetings to develop an understanding of the team’s role and impact on business decisions
  • Receive hands-on training in financial systems and tools, including Adaptive Planning, CaptivateIQ, and Power BI
  • Take ownership of the import process for prospective homebuilding deals, building familiarity with real-world project evaluation
  • Develop financial modeling skills by managing an individual forecast within Adaptive Planning


Key Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business analytics
  • Strong interest in corporate finance, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Curiosity about the homebuilding/real estate development industry
  • Interest in how macro trends (rates, housing demand, land strategy) impact financial performance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Understanding of income statement, cash flow, and basic financial metrics
  • GPA 3.4+ preferred


Special Projects:
Interns will actively participate in projects within their team and department, contributing to real business initiatives throughout the program. In addition, each intern will be responsible for completing a final project at the end of the internship, showcasing the skills, knowledge, and insights they have gained, as well as highlighting their contributions to the organization.


Compensation:

The hourly rate for this role is $18.00 - $20.00 per hour, with wages paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Physical Requirements:

This is primarily a sedentary position. Requires the ability to hear, type and talk. Finger dexterity is required to operate a computer keyboard. The primary work location is a corporate office with low to moderate noise levels. Appropriate business apparel and professional appearance are expected.
