Position Summary
The SOM Clinical Research Alliance is engaged in the management of the Advancing Clinical Trails Globally (ACTG) Leadership and Operations Center (LOC), a cooperative group funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and other collaborating NIH Institutes and Centers, as well as industry partners. The ACTG is an international, multicenter clinical trials network to advance therapeutics in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and viral hepatitis. This operation requires coordination of a research and clinical trials infrastructure that includes the fields of virology, immunology, pharmacology, mycobacteriology, specimen banking, clinical trials design, clinical trials data management, and new drug and laboratory testing regulatory affairs. Additionally, as the direction of NIAID, the Network responds to emergent clinical research needs. The Finance & Budget Analyst will provide leadership, oversight, and support for fiscal activities for monthly reporting to Operations and Finance Manager. This position will review and assist in developing methodologies used in the preparation of spending forecasts, budgets and/or budget projections through the thorough analysis of data including interpreting and evaluating results. This position will work directly with ACTG Executive Director and Operations & Finance Manger to strategically manage the funds which include monthly financial reporting and reconciliation, in addition to a yearly review report and/or presentation. The Finance/Budget Analyst is expected to find solutions to complex problems and weigh both short and long-term costs, benefits, constraints, and anticipated consequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Mid-career with Masters and 1-2 yrs experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 yrs experience

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and accept responsibility for designated assignments Requires excellent verbal, analytical/quantitative, and interpersonal skills
  • Requires knowledge of business, finance, accounting and grant administration
  • Extensive knowledge of: Microsoft Excel/Access/Work/Power Point.
  • Requires ability to independently create, analyze and manipulate complex spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated skills in preparing clear and comprehensive financial reports for use by the PI, granting agencies, and the Department Administration
  • Skill in the administration of complex multiple accounts from federal and private agencies
  • Knowledge of accounting and finance, experience in clinical trials budgeting and familiarity with NIH Policies

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • 1-3 years’ experience in Grant Management
  • Experience working in an academic medical center or university preferred.
  • Working knowledge of university and funding agency policies on grant administration.
