This position is eligible for teleworking, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective hire date.

Position Objective:
This position is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of leases (lessor & lessee), subscription-based Information Technology arrangements. The incumbent will be responsible for processing journal entries and analyzing accounting transactions, and assist with the preparation of footnote disclosures, with an emphasis on leases.
Responsibilities:

Review reports and prepare monthly journal entries on leases, GASB 87, subscription-based Information Technology arrangements, GASB 96, Public-Private and Public-Public Partnerships, and Availability Payment Arrangements, GASB 94.

Review lease procurement contracts and purchase orders to ensure proper accounting treatment.

Assist with the preparation of the annual composite of leased vehicles for financial reporting in accordance with GASB 87.

Coordinate with procurement, business operations, MTA Real Estate, IT for MTA, Yardi systems, and Greystone.

Prepare and record monthly rental revenue and resolve reconciling items between agency records and Yardi reports.

Assist with the annual issuance of the audited financial statements, including preparing required footnotes, supporting schedules, and account analysis required for financial reporting.

Provide information as needed for internal and external audits.

Take the lead in interfacing with BSC, Project Management, Budgets, Operations, IT, as well as internal and external customers to investigate and resolve various accounting issues and ensure essential financial data is accurately reported and available in the accounting system.

Assist in the month-end and annual accounting close.

Prepare general ledger monthly account analysis and schedules.

Determine/resolve discrepancies and prepare various journal entries as needed.

Create and perform PeopleSoft queries to assist with the monthly close and analysis.

Support Accounting Managers and Supervisors.

Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:

Must possess an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.

Must have experience with monthly general ledger closing and financial reporting.

Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), including macro development and pivot tables.

Must have excellent analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.

Must possess outstanding writing skills and good communication skills.

Must be able to convey information both in a precise technical manner and in a concise, understandable manner.

Must be comfortable working as part of a group as well as independently.

Must be able to perform the functions of this position without the need for direct hands-on supervision from the immediate supervisor of this position.

It is expected that the individual in this position will take initiative to resolve issues without constant supervision.
Required Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree (preferably in accounting, finance, business, business administration, economics, or related field). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Minimum 4 years of progressive financial/accounting experience with a major government or corporate entity. A master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
The Following is/are preferred:

MBA or CPA
-
Experience working with contracts and purchase orders (financial compliance)

Experience in PeopleSoft or similar ERP system and lease accounting software
