Position Overview

NMSIC is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Analyst – Investment & Public Fund Accounting to support financial reporting, investment analysis, fund reconciliation, and performance monitoring for the state’s complex multi-asset investment portfolios. This role is ideal for an accounting or finance professional with experience in public fund accounting, investment analytics, or governmental financial reporting. The Financial Analyst will support senior accounting staff and collaborate with investment, operations, legal, and external audit partners.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the accounting and reporting of public funds and government investment portfolios
  • Maintain accurate financial records, reconciliations, and schedules for multi–asset class portfolios
  • Support the interpretation and application of GASB and GAAP standards for fund accounting
  • Prepare analysis on capital calls, distributions, cash flows, investment income, and fair value changes
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with New Mexico statutes governing public fund investment
  • Collaborate with investment staff to support cash forecasting and liquidity planning
  • Support the preparation of audited financial statements and external audit coordination
  • Prepare internal and external financial reports and performance summaries
  • Monitor internal controls and support process improvements
  • Participate in budgeting, policy development, and data-driven analysis

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field
  • 2–5 years of accounting, financial analysis, or investment operations experience
  • Knowledge of public fund accounting, investment reconciliation, and financial reporting
  • Familiarity with GASB, GAAP, and governmental financial frameworks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial/accounting systems
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with investment accounting, public funds, or institutional portfolios

Understanding state investment statutes or governmental investment policy

  • Experience working with auditors, consultants, or investment professionals
  • Interest in public finance, sovereign wealth fund operations, or investment strategy
  • Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and mission alignment
