Financial Analyst - Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

UTHealth Houston's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is hiring a Financial Analyst!

This position will be responsible for monthly financial reporting to faculty, ensuring clear visibility into budgets, expenditures, start-up balances, internal grant awards, and available funds. Regular, standardized reporting will allow faculty leaders to make informed decisions regarding resource utilization, research planning, and clinical investments, while reducing reliance on ad hoc or delayed financial information.

The Financial Analyst will provide direct oversight and reconciliation of faculty start-up funds and internal grants, including tracking allowable expenditures, monitoring burn rates, and ensuring compliance with institutional and sponsor guidelines. This centralized oversight is essential to prevent financial discrepancies, mitigate audit risk, and ensure funds are used in accordance with approved purposes and timelines.

In addition, the position will support departmental financial reporting and analysis, including budget preparation, variance analysis, and ongoing reconciliation of accounts. The analyst will serve as a key liaison between faculty, department leadership, and central finance, translating complex financial data into clear, actionable reports that support strategic planning and operational decision making.

The Financial Analyst will also be responsible for ad hoc financial analyses and reports as needed to support leadership requests, program development, space planning, faculty recruitment, and new initiatives. This includes responding to time sensitive requests that require accurate financial modeling or historical analysis, which cannot be effectively managed without a dedicated role.
