Overview
The Financial Controller role involves overseeing the company’s financial operations, collaborating with the CFO on long-term financial planning, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, audits, and compliance. Responsibilities include managing accounting functions (A/P, A/R, G/L), month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting. The position also requires improving accounting systems and processes, supporting intercompany transactions, and ensuring regulatory filings. Leadership duties include staff development, performance reviews, and hiring. Additional tasks include system familiarization (Epicor, Spruce, AS400), sales tax audits, credit card program management, and implementing financial close procedures.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting in accordance with GAAP/IFRS
- Manage general ledger, reconciliations, and closing processes
- Assist with Cost accounting and inventory costing
- Monitor cash flow and working capital
- Review and evaluate inventory levels based on current and expected activity
- Ensure Sales Tax filings are filed properly
- Manage the day-to-day operations ensuring all basic accounting functions are being performed properly
- Analyze financial report pre-close and post-close to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes
- Maintain, administer and oversee Company credit card program
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and tax requirements
- Coordinate and manage external audits
- Maintain financial policies and procedures
Team Leadership
- Supervise accounting staff and finance personnel
- Provide training, performance management, and development
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Strategic Support
- Partner with executive leadership on financial strategy
- Support mergers, acquisitions, or capital investments (if applicable)
- Collaborate with all departments, building cross functional relationships
Technical Accounting Expertise
- Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting standards
- Experience with revenue recognition, accruals, consolidations, and month-end close
- Proficiency in financial statement preparation and regulatory compliance
- Audit coordination experience and understanding of tax fundamentals
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Experience designing and maintaining internal controls
- Knowledge of compliance requirements
- Process improvement mindset with focus on efficiency and accuracy
- Understanding of financial governance and risk management

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification required
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance management experience
- Experience in financial reporting and team leadership
