Financial Controller

Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead our financial operations and ensure the integrity of our financial reporting. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all accounting functions, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and drive strategic financial planning. Duties

  • Manage and oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and other regulatory requirements relevant to nonprofit and governmental accounting.
  • Lead the preparation of accurate financial statements, reports, and analyses to support decision-making and stakeholder communication.
  • Conduct balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, and account reconciliation to maintain precise financial records.
  • Oversee cash management activities, including forecasting, cash flow analysis, and banking relationships to optimize liquidity.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure adherence to policies such as SOX compliance.
  • Coordinate external audits, regulatory reporting, and tax filings with auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Utilize accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms to streamline processes and improve reporting efficiency.
  • Lead budgeting processes, variance analysis, and financial forecasting to support organizational goals.
  • Supervise finance team members in technical accounting tasks such as double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, general ledger management, and payroll processing.

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar senior finance role within nonprofit or governmental organizations.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting standards including GAAP and IFRS; familiarity with Non-profit accounting practices is highly desirable.
  • Strong background in financial concepts such as debits & credits, account reconciliation, balance sheet management, and cash flow analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software like Sage, QuickBooks, Xero or equivalent financial management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare comprehensive financial reports and write clear financial analyses for diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to nonprofit organizations or government entities is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills combined with strong attention to detail; ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
