Position: Financial Counselor and Educator

Benefits: 403(b) (employer match available after one year), ten (10) days paid vacation, Agency’s paid holidays, paid sick leave, employer-provided life insurance, employer-provided long-term disability insurance (after one year). Health insurance is not offered at this time

Location: Sheboygan, WI. Some remote work possible

Salary Range $41,600 – $52,000 annually

General Overview:

The Financial Counselor and Educator is responsible for providing individualized financial counseling, education, and support to clients. This role focuses on empowering individuals to improve their financial stability through budgeting, credit building, debt management, and financial literacy. The position also includes community outreach and educational workshops to expand access to financial resources.

Credit Counseling: The Financial Counselor and Educator will be accountable for establishing relationships with clients, as well as identifying client needs, analyzing their credit situation, preparing a budget, establishing creditor payment schedules, and implementing repayment programs. In addition, The Financial Counselor and Educator will be expected to prepare and conduct public presentations for the agency.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide one-on-one financial counseling to clients, including assessment of financial situations and development of personalized action plans
  • Educate clients on budgeting, saving, credit building, debt reduction, and overall financial wellness
  • Assist clients in navigating financial systems, including banking, credit reports, and public assistance programs
  • Conduct financial education workshops, group sessions, and community presentations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, including banks, schools, and local organizations
  • Track client progress and maintain accurate, timely documentation and reports within the CRM.
  • Support outreach initiatives, including events such as “Lunch & Learn” sessions and community engagement activities
  • Stay current on financial trends, regulations, and available community resources
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure coordinated services and client success Assist clients by analyzing the current credit situation, offering basic training to educate client on credit and budgeting techniques.
  • Accurately generate and complete administrative paperwork required for each counseling session.
  • Act as a team player with agency staff, partnering with the entire agency team to continually improve the services offered to clients.
  • Become a Certified Consumer Credit Counselor within six months of employment; maintain Certified Consumer Credit Counselor designation by meeting all the necessary requirements.
  • Attend State, Regional, and National meetings, as required.
  • Occasional travel is required. This is not limited to Sheboygan County.
  • Normal work week is forty (40), with occasional nights and weekends.
  • Must be willing to become NFCC and HUD Certified Counselor date

Qualifications:

  • Experience in financial counseling, education, or case management
  • Understanding of budgeting, credit, debt management, and financial literacy principles
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build trust and work effectively with diverse populations
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Experience with data tracking and reporting systems is a plus Must feel comfortable with public speaking and teaching
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work individually as well as in a team environment, enjoy working with people-prior experience dealing with customers preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • May require evening or weekend client appointments.
