Financial Specialist

The Division of Adult Institution is recruiting to fill a Financial Specialist position. This position is based out of Racine Correctional Institution (Sturtevant, WI, Racine County).

Position Summary


Under the general supervision of the Financial Program Supervisor, this position is responsible for the maintenance of Persons In Our Care (PIOC) accounts using the computerized system Wisconsin Integrated Corrections System (WICS). Responsibilities include receipts and disbursements, PIOC obligations, answering PIOC correspondence, preparing general fund checks, processing of PIOC canteen statements, maintenance of the PIOC and general ledger accounts; the preparation of various financial reports, including the submission of routine monthly quarterly and annual reports; and the performance of miscellaneous duties. This position will also back up other Financial Specialists as assigned by Financial Program Supervisor. The above duties are not all inclusive; other tasks as deemed appropriate will be assigned by the Financial Program Supervisor.

Salary Information


This position is in pay schedule/range 02-11 with a starting pay rate of $22.31/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensations Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details


Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

Qualifications


Applicants will be assessed on relevant experience, including the following:

Data gathering, entry, and financial reports

Basic computer experience, including spreadsheets, word processing, and email

Working with records and forms

Basic math, cash handling, and customer service

A screening questionnaire will determine if candidates are minimally qualified to continue in the selection process.
