The Idaho Transportation Department is hiring a Financial Specialist to join our Budget team located in Headquarters Boise, ID .

In this role, you will review, verify, and process allotment adjustments and internal fund transfers while tracking commitments and obligations to ensure they align with approved budget plans. You will gather and reconcile expenditure data, monitor spending against appropriations, update budget information in financial systems, and prepare financial reports and variance analyses.

Additional responsibilities include reviewing expenditures for accurate coding, supporting audit documentation, and ensuring compliance with financial and budgetary regulations. This position also offers cross‑training opportunities in accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants, and payroll to promote team continuity and strengthen overall financial operations.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• Review, verify, and process allotment adjustments, internal fund transfers, and related financial transactions to ensure accuracy and alignment with budget allocations.
• Monitor commitments, obligations, encumbrances, and expenditures to confirm consistency with approved budget plans and appropriation limits.
• Gather, reconcile, and analyze expenditure data; prepare basic financial reports, variance summaries, and system updates to support informed budget decisions.
• Review expenditures for proper coding, compliance with regulatory requirements, and adherence to internal financial policies.
• Maintain organized and accurate financial records, supporting audit preparation and ongoing accountability measures.
• Ensure compliance with budgeting regulations, appropriation controls, and established fiscal procedures.
• Collaborate with colleagues across accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants, and payroll to support integrated financial operations.
• Participate in cross-training initiatives to expand knowledge, increase organizational flexibility, and strengthen continuity across financial services.
