The Finishing Carpenter is responsible for the installation and finishing of interior structures and features in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This role requires a keen eye for detail, craftsmanship, and the ability to work collaboratively with other trades to complete projects to high standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation
- Install and finish various types of interior fixtures, including trim, moldings, doors, windows, cabinets, and countertops.
- Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials with precision.
- Ensure all installations are level, square, and in alignment with project specifications.
- Finishing Work
- Apply stains, paints, and finishes to wood surfaces, ensuring a high-quality appearance.
- Sand, polish, and touch up surfaces to achieve desired aesthetics.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on existing fixtures and finishes as needed.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with project managers, architects, and other trades to understand project requirements and timelines.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and preferences.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior carpenters and apprentices.
- Quality Control and Safety
- Ensure all work complies with building codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
- Inspect completed work for quality and accuracy, making adjustments as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a carpentry apprenticeship or vocational training is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in carpentry, specifically in finishing work.
- Skills:
- Proficient in using carpentry tools and equipment, including saws, drills, and sanders.
- Strong understanding of carpentry techniques, materials, and finishing processes.
- Basic mathematical skills for accurate measurements and calculations.
