The Cadet Program provides interested individuals with valuable insight into the professional fire service and will assist the individual to decide whether they desires to pursue a greater role. By participating in the Cadet Program, the individual will gain personal confidence, learn to use various career development tools, develop mechanical skills, fire aptitude, and gain a greater awareness of personal and fire safety.The Cadet Program is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between the Orange City Fire Department and the community. The Cadet Program has been established to match people and program resources within the Orange City Fire Department to benefit qualified individuals in our local community. The result is a program of activities that help the individual explore the many facets of the fire service. The Cadet Program is a valuable resource that contributes to community service and provides a variety of diversified functions in a rapidly growing and expanding city and county.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Attend monthly meetings on the last three Thursdays of every month.Participates in drills and training in firefighting techniques.Sets up and uses fire hose, ladders, and other firefighting equipment.Learn pre-fire planning and fire prevention.Participates in public education and community outreach.Participates in the Fire Cadet Ride-Along Program to learn about firefighter’s duties at a firehouse.Performs various other duties as assigned.
