FIRE DIRECTOR - CENTRE REGION COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS, REGIONAL FIRE PROTECTION PROGRAM

The Centre Region Council of Governments, Regional Fire Protection Program, located in the heart of Central Pennsylvania, seeks an innovative, collaborative, dynamic, community-minded leader with fire, rescue, and HazMat management and administrative experience for the position of Fire Director / Chief of Department.

The area is protected by the highly respected and successful Alpha Volunteer Fire Company. Alpha Fire Company responds to more than 1,500 incidents annually. This is a unique opportunity to lead a high-performing combination fire service serving more than 93,000 residents across the Centre Region, including Penn State University. The successful candidate will help shape the future of regional public safety while working closely with career personnel, volunteers, elected officials, and community partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead strategic planning and regional service delivery
• Ensure operational readiness and standards of cover
• Oversee budgets, capital planning, and resource allocation
• Build strong relationships with volunteers, staff, elected officials, and partners
• Strengthen the integrated combination model through collaborative leadership
• Represent RFPP in regional, municipal, and public forums

QUALIFICATIONS

• BS/BA in Fire Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
• 10 years of fire service experience, with 5 as Chief/Asst. Chief or equivalent
• ICS 300/400, NIMS 800, and Pro Board Fire Officer III
• Ability to establish residency and meet all other hiring requirements
