Fire Technician

JOB
The primary duty of this position is to protect life and property by performing effective rescue and firefighting operations. The Fire Operations Technician will provide skilled maintenance and inspection of the department’s apparatus, equipment and facilities. Performs related emergency scene duties, equipment and facility maintenance, and logistical support as assigned. *PLEASE NOTE: Informational Meeting has been pushed back to Wednesday, March 25 19:00-19:45 at the Minnetonka Fire Station 1.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Responds to emergency calls quickly, safely and with the proper protective equipment to provide fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials, and emergency medical assistance to the public. Maintains and operates fire department apparatus, equipment and facilities in a constant state of readiness for all divisions of the fire department.May be assigned to a 24-hour shift schedule as a Firefighter or Driver/Operator (56-hour work week/2912 annual hours).May be assigned to a secondary schedule as a 40-hour Technician. (40-hour week/2080 annual hours).Is assigned to or supplements duty crew shifts as needed.Ensures adherence to department policies, procedures and safety practices.Participates in training sessions to maintain and upgrade fire, rescue, and medical skills.Organizes, schedules and maintains accurate and complete records of all inspection and maintenance activities including those performed by the public works department and or outside vendors.Recommends policy and procedure changes to enhance apparatus and equipment performance.Assists with fleet management during annual testing of pumps, ladders and hose.Performs snow removal, housekeeping, and grounds maintenance at fire stations.Delivers supplies, equipment and mail to satellite fire stations. Performs other duties as assigned. Other Job Functions: Organizes, schedules, and performs periodic maintenance on fire apparatus, equipment and facilities including factory authorized work on self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).Coordinates all inspection and maintenance activities performed by outside vendors.Assists firefighters with cleaning and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).Provides support to fire prevention activities such as set up and maintenance of displays.

The informational meeting will discuss the desired attributes of a firefighter for the Minnetonka Fire Department as well as the different steps of the process and how to best prepare.REVIEW OF CANDIDATES QUALIFICATIONS – Week of March 30Applicants who successfully meet or exceed the preferred qualifications will move on to the presentation and panel interviews. Weeks of April 6 and April 13: Panel Interviews, Ride-Alongs and Chiefs’ Interviews.FINALIST IDENTIFIED / CONDITIONAL OFFER - Week of April 20The selected candidate who successfully passes both rounds of interviews and the panel presentation will receive a contingent offer. This offer will outline instructions and next steps. The offer is contingent on the candidate successfully passing (or confirmation of previously passing) the City's evaluation of the following: physical exam, psychological evaluation, the validation of any previous fire-related certifications and education. BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL EXAM WITH DRUG SCREEN, CERTIFICATION VALIDATION AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINATIONIn the case of a candidate who has not completed these steps during their initial employment screening, a background check, physical exam with drug screen and psychological examination will need to be completed.
