The City of Robbinsdale is looking for our next Firefighter!Join our Paid On-Call firefighting team and help keep our city safe.We will be holding a couple of drill nights open to those individuals who are interested in seeing what the fire department is all about and ask all the questions they can think of. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Fire SuppressionResponds to fire emergencies on apparatus to assist in the suppression of fires within properties, vehicles or in wild land areasRescues persons trapped in burning buildings or from other emergency situationsEffectively operates fire apparatus and rescue vehicles to and from the fire groundConnects and handles hose lines and nozzles to hydrants and apparatus, raises or lowers ladders to upper levels of structures and applies water or other extinguishing agents for maximum effectGains entry into buildings by breaking glass, forcing doors, windows or gates or cutting locks and bars by utilizing power or hydraulic hand toolsVentilates burning structures by breaking windows, cutting holes through floors, roofs or walls and placing ventilation fans appropriately to speed removal of smoke or superheated gasesWhen possible, provides protection to building contents in order to minimize damage from water or smokePerforms salvage and overhaul operations in order to help determine origin of fireUses ladders, ropes, hand tools, gasoline and hand operated hydraulic power tools, generators, extinguishers, self-contained breathing apparatus, first-aid and/or other equipment in fire and rescue workEmergency Medical And Rescue ResponseResponds to requests for emergency medical assistanceResponds to requests for rescue of trapped or injured personsAdministers first-aid including taking vital signs through observation, stopping bleeding, immobilizing fractures, restoring breathing and performing CPRResponds to and assists in stabilizing situations involving leaks and/or spills of flammable/combustible liquids and other hazardous materialsHazardous Materials ResponseResponds to and assists in stabilizing situations involving leaks and/or spills of flammable/combustible liquids and other hazardous materialsAssists in identifying hazardous materialsAssists in evacuation of persons within designated areasGeneralMaintains acceptable overall attendance percentages at fire calls, business meetings, drills and work details as outlined by departmental requirementsParticipates in continuing training programs by individual study of technical materialsParticipates in inspection of business and commercial buildings for compliance with fire codes and pre-fire planningAssists in conducting fire safety education programsPerforms duties for extended periods of time in emergenciesPrepares routine records and/or reports as neededPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned or delegated by supervisorsSupervisory Duties and ResponsibilitiesMay exercise functional supervision of other firefighters in the absence of a line officer. Must be able to move about freely on public and private property, including climbing stairs or walking on uneven surfaces. Must be able to bend and move about in tight spaces. Must be able to handle objects and grasp, turn or otherwise use hands. Must be able to lift at all levels at least 100 pounds, or more in some cases. Must be able to perform all physical requirements and job-related tasks.Working ConditionsFirefighters work in office and field environments both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions and are likely to work in extreme heat, extreme cold and/or humid environments. May encounter noise and/or vibration exceeding 80 decibels, either constant or intermittent. May encounter a variety of physical hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, working at heights, exposure to burns and radiant energy and exposure to explosive and toxic chemicals and biological agents.
