Job Title: Firefighter / EMR

Department: Telfair County Fire Department

Location: 3003 Hwy 441 McRae-Helena, GA

Status: Full-Time / Part-Time

Job Summary

The Firefighter/EMR is responsible for the protection of life and property through firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services. This position involves responding to emergency calls, maintaining equipment, and participating in continuous training. You will work a rotating 24/48 schedule, meaning 24 hours on active duty followed by 48 hours off duty.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Emergency Response: Respond to Fires, Medical Emergencies, Hazardous Materials Incidents, and Vehicle Accidents.

Fire Suppression: Connect hoses, operate nozzles, use chemical extinguishers, along with other equipment needed to complete the incident.

Medical Care: Administer first aid and pre-hospital emergency medical care at the EMR level.

Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and cleaning of fire apparatus, tools, and the fire station.

Training: Attend mandatory training drills to maintain state certifications and improve rescue tactics.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Must Have good reading and writing skills.

Must possess a Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License. [ Have the ability to obtain a class F license within 6 months after hire date].

If already Certified. Applicant must be in good standings with GFSTC.

Certification: Ability to obtain NPQ Firefighter I and CPR/AED and EMR certifications within the first year of employment. Basic EMT preferred but not mandatory. [ Certified applicants will be given priority.]

Background: Must pass a Criminal and Driving history review (No felony convictions in any jurisdiction in the last 10 years)

Must pass Drug Test successfully.

Physical Requirements

Must be in excellent physical condition and pass the GFSTC Physical Agility Test.

Ability to lift and carry over 100 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.

Capable of working in extreme environments, including high heat, smoke, cold, rain and confined spaces.
